We’ve long fantasized about hearing Sia‘s original demo of “Diamonds,” the #1 single from Rihanna’s #1 album Unapologetic that the Australian singer-songwriter penned — and now we’ve got the next best thing: Sia took the stage several weeks ago to perform her rendition of the song at the Norwegian-American Achievement Awards ceremony, although video is just surfacing now.
As expected, Sia injects a whole new energy into the song, stripping back the production to reveal how haunting and evocative “Diamonds” is in its DNA. She may not be as #UNAPOLOGETIC as Riri, but Sia’s powerful vocals transform the track into a soaring torch anthem. Watch up top.
Can you called it a “cover” when it’s her song?
I wish she kept it. Sia performs it with more feeling live. Rihanna recorded version is great, but her live performances of it seem to be more about attitude than feeling.
The title is wrong Sia is not doing a cover its her song.
I want to add my voice to that.. it’s not a cover, it’s her song. She totally owned it there .. :)
