M.I.A. — er, one of her fans — released “AtTENTion,” the provocateur’s first new song since dropping the completely rad “Bad Girls” way back in January. In typically M.I.A. fashion, the singer sent it to a fan who was hounding her over Twitter about not releasing any new music. And then that fan proceeded to share it with the world.
“AtTENTion” doesn’t have the hi-fi pop sensibilities of “Bad Girls,” but it’s deceptively hypnotic. The verses are choppy and screwy, but not abrasive like her /\/\ /\ Y /\ stuff, thanks to a trance-y, wordless refrain that softens the blow. Check it out below.
