Jay-Z Is Scoring ‘The Great Gatsby’ Film

Based on The Great Gatsby‘s first trailer, we knew Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s Watch The Throne cut “No Church In The Wild” would be featured in the film’s soundtrack. But now we know Jay has been enlisted to score the film, along with producer/singer Jeymes Samuel’s project The Bullitts. Samuel tweeted Sunday (December 30): “Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!”

Considering Jay’s Gatsby-like rise, as well as Throne‘s mix of opulence and social commentary, it should be easy for Jay to compose music that evokes the story’s themes. And if nothing else, there’s the gilded similarities of Throne‘s cover and the Gatsby art. The movie opens May 10, so expect to hear snippets of the score in the spring.
