Aaliyah’s “Quit Hatin'”: Hear The New Posthumous Leak

Wednesday (January 16) of this week would have marked Aaliyah‘s 34th birthday — and while there haven’t been any recent updates on the status of Aaliyah’s posthumous record, executive-produced by Drake and set for a release on Blackground Records, her birthday did deliver an unexpected gift from the fallen R&B icon: A new leak titled “Quit Hatin’,” which is a dreamy, swirling ballad with a wobbly backbeat.

The track had leaked previously in altered form; this new version has more vocals and an additional verse, and it’s both a testament to her legacy and the production, courtesy of Knotch and Dre Sinatra, that it wouldn’t sound out of place on the ’90s-referencing, gloomy R&B that’s de rigeur right now. Listen below.
