Rapper Pusha T is the latest member of Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music imprint to dash our hopes of a Cruel Winter compilation, making this the cruelest winter, indeed. Pusha spoke with MTV and said he thinks Cruel Winter was actually in the works at one point, but it has since been scrapped. “I believe that there were intentions for a Cruel Winter and there’s so much music floating, but G.O.O.D. Music isn’t one to just piece a project together,” he said.
“I probably have 15 verses that are just over beats, that are laying around wherever ‘Ye and his hard drive is right now. And I’m sure Cyhi, Sean, Cudi, Tip, everybody has other production or verses on these records as well,” he added. “I think ‘Ye really tries to keep the brand, keep it up to a certain standard and piecing together a record like that, it’s just not gonna work.”
To be fair, Yeezy is probably busy planning some cartoonishly elaborate baby shower for Kim Kardashian, and building a nursery for their baby that can outshine Jay-Z‘s $1 million/year nursery for Blue Ivy at Barclays. So, dude’s got a lot on his mind right now. Rushing to throw together a follow-up to an underwhelming crew mixtape may not be high up on his list.
A few months ago, several G.O.O.D. MCs (with Q-Tip the main culprit) drummed up initial hype when they hinted that the G.O.O.D. cohort was hard at work on the Cruel Summer sequel. But now the truth seems to be coming out: before Pusha’s revelation, Common last week said the reports were just rumors and that everyone is focused on their solo records.
