Miley Cyrus‘ celebratory classic “Party In The U.S.A.” arrived in 2009 courtesy of superproducer Dr. Luke and a then-unknown singer-songwriter named Jessica Cornish, who later launched as a major star in her native UK (and met with reasonable success stateside despite a lot of shade) under the name Jessie J. So although a Jessie J version of the track isn’t something that we ever necessarily wanted, per se, it was at least a little thrilling when the tune’s co-writer, Claude Kelly, leaked a 30-second snippet of Jessie’s original demo today on his SoundCloud.

“in the studio with Jessie J reminiscing about how it ALL got started,” he wrote. “Pea, Moonhead and the incredible Coconut Man. this is the first song we ever did. i guess we did ok, right?” The lyrics are slightly different and Jessie, who’s well-known for her prodigious vocal abilities, can really belt — but you really can’t win over Cyrus’ swaggerific original.
