“Woke up, said we gon’ turn them corners to Baghdad,50 Cent asserts in his new song “Financial Freedom” — his idea of nostalgia. The song was inspired by the 10-year anniversary of his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin, with Fif explaining he wrote this cut “so everytime i hear it it reminds me of it.” By the way, he wrote it on Wednesday (February 6), shot the video on Thursday and premiered it today. How’s that for some quick turnaround?

Despite its title,”Financial Freedom” focuses more on the rapper’s come-up (the streets, the shootings) than his expenditures. Especially compared to “My Life,” even the music video is considerably low-key — as Fiddy himself notes, “no GIRLS, no JEWELRY, RAW ENERGY.” (And also, SOME PRODUCT PLACEMENT.)
