Mariah Carey’s “Almost Home” Video: Watch The Black & White Clip

Look, a new Mariah Carey video is a new Mariah Carey video and that’s nothing to sneeze at, and when we learned that she’d teamed up with the iconic director David LaChappelle for the clip for “Almost Home,” our expectations were high. Perhaps too high, since it’s a soundtrack cut, which means that Mimi is more or less obligated to make a super-boring music video intercut with footage from whatever film the track is servicing, which is an absolutely abysmal way of promoting the movie (really, is there anyone who’s just now learning that Oz The Great & Powerful is a thing because they saw it in a Mariah Carey music video?) — but alas, music lovers, that’s just the modern age and the world we live in.

So how is it? Well, Carey looks stunning, and there’s wind machines galore, so all of that is working in her favor; the song remains a superb entry in her catalogue and LaChapelle has done fine work with the simple, elegant setup. But sincerely, if there’s anything more disheartening than taking a perfectly good Mariah Carey ballad and setting it to clips of James Francowe have yet to discover it.

Watch up top.
