‘The Great Gatsby’ Soundtrack: Hear New Music From Beyonce, Lana Del Rey, Florence & The Machine
The star-studded, Jay-Z executive-produced soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann‘s upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby has been the subject of much speculation — questions like, “Oh my God, when can we hear this masterpiece?” and “If we don’t get this soon will we literally die?” and “Is this going to be the greatest soundtrack ever? Actually, never mind, that’s not even a question” — and now, more details are emerging.
The full trailer was released today, and not only does the movie look spectacularly lush and histrionic, there’s three new songs featured in the trailer: Beyonce and Andre 3000‘s cover of Amy Winehouse‘s “Back to Black,” Lana Del Rey‘s “Young and Beautiful” (originally entitled “Will You Still Love Me?”), which was produced by Rick Nowels for the re-release of Born to Die but left off the final tracklist, and Florence & The Machine‘s new original song “Over the Love.”
Beyonce’s “Black” sounds appropriately smoky and soulful, while Del Rey’s contribution is all dusky tragedy and Florence’s tune sounds absolutely majestic — and that initial teaser is just the tip of the iceberg: The soundtrack’s tracklist was also unveiled today, and it features songs from, um, everyone. Jay-Z, Beyonce and Andre 3000, will.i.am, Fergie, Q-Tip, GoonRock, Lana Del Rey, Bryan Ferry, Florence and the Machine, Coco O. (who?), Emeli Sande, The xx, Gotye, Jack White, Nero and Sia. (Phew.)
We’re calling it now: The will.i.am track will be the only misstep. (It better not be an abysmal club-rap Nancy Sinatra cover.)
According to a press release, the first official single from the soundtrack will be Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful,” with a video dropping April 22 and the song’s release scheduled for April 23; the album drops May 7. Check the full track listing below.
