David Guetta, Ne-Yo & Akon’s “Play Hard” Video: Watch The Weird, Weird Clip
Look: A new video from David Guetta, Ne-Yo and Akon isn’t something any of us are going to get particularly excited about, especially in 2013, and their single together — “Play Hard” (the emphasis is firmly there, not so much on the working hard part) — is exactly the type of pedestrian club-pop you’d expect, the effective sampling of Alice Deejay‘s “Better Off Alone” notwithstanding.
But damn it if this isn’t one of the most appealingly weird videos we’ve seen in awhile, with creepy cowboys at a rodeo and Ne-Yo eating pancakes and David Guetta getting a tattoo and girls eating popsicles in a way that isn’t even remotely sexy.
It’s strange, surreal and a little bit unsettling, in a Lynchian sort of way, so kudos to Guetta and company for doing something that isn’t terrible. (That’s where the bar is, everyone. Just so we’re clear.)
