Avril Lavigne’s “Here’s To Never Growing Up” Video: Prom & Shenanigans

At this point, I’m probably biased when it comes to Avril Lavigne‘s “Here’s To Never Growing Up,” which I maintain is an absolute masterclass in pop nostalgia, so I greeted the song’s video with high expectations — and the punk-pop princess didn’t disappoint.

Like the song, the video is bratty and adolescent; also like the song, it’s sort of marvelous, with a sly reference to “Complicated” that’s an absolute delight.

The video follows the developmentally arrested chanteuse and her cohorts around a typical high school, which means there’s a prom (which means tacky dresses), lots of glamour shots of Avril with bedhead and heavy eye makeup, plus an extended skateboarding sequence that just makes me feel a lot of things. The song might be floundering on the charts, but I’m still singing Avril at the top of my lungs, and intend to continue doing so all summer.

Watch up top.
