DJ Khaled’s “No New Friends” Video: Watch Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Drake Party Like It’s 1996

DJ Khaled has dropped his new video for “No New Friends,” off his seventh album Suffering from Success. Filmed partially as if through the lens of a camcorder –think Lana Del Rey‘s “National Anthem” video — and timestamped, “May 15, 1996,” the Colin Tilley-directed video shows that while technology has evolved, displays of hip-hop opulence are (apparently) timeless.

Mansion with a pool and hot tub? Check. Product placement? Check. Bored dancing girls? Check. While Drake repeats the hook ad nauseum, he does take the wheel of a Jeep and ease into a bubble bath, as the rest of his crew (Birdman, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross) idly hang out by a helicopter landing and at a banquet table.

In short: the “No New Friends” video bears no new ideas, its biggest surprises being a five-second cameo by Fat Joe and DJ Khaled’s cell phone. Watch the video up top, and then after the jump, check out the “Firm Biz” video by the Firm (Nas, Foxy Brown, AZ) — a rap crew that was panned for being too commercial, but now seem far more exciting compared to Khaled’s friends.
