Snoop Dogg may have been reborn as Snoop Lion, but he’s returning to his original canine moniker for his new track “Let The Bass Go,” taken from the soundtrack of the animated comedy Turbo. As is de rigeur for a song for a family-friendly flick, the song is squeaky-clean, all generic LMFAO-style shouting and inoffensive rapping. Maybe that’s what Snoop Dogg is all about now! Maybe Snoop Lion releases grand, sprawling stoner anthems and Snoop Dogg makes undifferentiated hip-pop for kids. Ah, well. What’s a legacy, anyway?

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Snoop called the song, “something different from what’s usually associated with Snoop Dogg” and “something upbeat that everyone in the house can enjoy.” Sure! Right, sure.
