Who knew 2013 would be such a strong year for singles from children’s movies? Beyonce‘s “Rise Up” from EpicBritney Spears‘ “Ooh La La” from Smurfs 2 and Pharrell‘s “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 all dropped in recent weeks. And, sure, none of these are on the level of, say, Elton John‘s The Lion King work, but Brit and Pharrell’s offerings in particular are really good! They’re sugary and sticky enough for kids to eat up, but they showcase the complex pop flavors that actual developed beings with a more refined palate can appreciate, too.

We immediately fell in love with “Happy” when it was unveiled back in May, and now we’ve found ourselves revisiting the track thanks to the new lyric video, which is the perfect antidote to the seasonal affective disorder that we’re currently struggling with thanks to New York’s unending April showers. Watch it up top.

Pharrell co-produced the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, which is out today (June 18). The film is out July 3 and stars Steve Carrell.
