Kelly Clarkson’s “Tie It Up”: Hear Her Wedding-Centric Country Single

Let’s all help Kelly Clarkson usher in a new era: An era of change; an era of happiness; an era of wedded bliss and hoedown throwdowns and country stylings. Yes, Kelly Clarkson is getting married, which is kind of significant, and she’s also a country girl at heart, which is kind of significant, and those two threads come together on her new single “Tie It Up,” which is — surprise — a country song about getting married.

A twangy “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll”-style guitar loop kicks open the song, as Clarkson tells the tale of spotting her groom across the room before launching into a triumphant chorus: “Let’s set the date / Let’s hire the band / Let’s cut the cake / Tie up the cans,” she roars. It may not be a mainstream radio smash, but it sounds like the kind of thing that’ll go over pretty well in the heartland (probably better than, say, “Hole”) and even if it feels a little bit hamfisted, you just can’t not love Kelly Clarkson. Is there anyone who doesn’t love Kelly Clarkson? Is that even possible? I hope not.
