Superstar singer-songwriter Bonnie McKee has penned all your favorite songs by all your favorite artists, so in the official debut of her solo career, it makes perfect sense that she would call upon her famous cohorts to lend a hand: In the video for McKee’s debut single on Epic Records, “American Girl,” she patched together a lip dub video featuring a few pals: Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Carly Rae Jepsen, Macklemore, Becky G, Lance Bass, Karmin, Jason Derulo, Taio Cruz, Adam Lambert, Sofi, Sirah, Nicole Scherzinger, Jewel, Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, Jenny McCarthy, Kathy Griffin, George Takei and some other people too. Really. It’s not a big deal at all.

If anything, that just distracts from the fact that the song is absolutely enormous: A plucky pop confection with a hook that’s comically huge, with a clever lyrical conceit that’s as neatly cohesive and statement-making as McKee’s frequent collaborator Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” was back in 2008. It’s a striking debut, and it sounds perfectly tailored to dominate radio all summer long.

I’ve championed McKee as a star for a long time, and this is absolutely her moment. Watch the video up top, then download “American Girl” for free on her official site.
