Kanye West’s “Black Skinhead” Mashed Up With Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus”: Listen

Kanye West‘s Yeezus track “Black Skinhead” added an immediate jolt of industrial energy to rap when it first dropped in May. With the track’s pounding percussion and gloomy synth work, West clearly drew influences from sonics outside of the normal realm of hip-hop. One such reference point, for that song at least, seemed to be brooding synth-poppers Depeche Mode: a growing number of listeners on the Web began comparing the song to the British group’s iconic “Personal Jesus.”

And now, the connection has been made real. Someone by the name of Chambaland created a mashup of “Black Skinhead” and “Personal Jesus,” and it’s pretty great! The grinding hums of the Yeezus track perfectly match with the bluesy riff of “Jesus,” and the clatter of drums from “Skinhead” sounds completely natural under Dave Gahan‘s proclamation to “reach out and touch faith.”

Head below to hear what we’re unofficially dubbing “Personal Yeezus.”
