With the release date of his sixth studio album Blurred Lines nearing, Robin Thicke has given fans the chance to preview the tracks. The R&B crooner sonically shakes things up a bit with this “compacted” album (there are sadly only 10 songs, Thicke fans) by cutting down the emotional ballads to a small number and experimenting with more up-tempo, futuristic rhythms.

His summer anthem “Blurred Lines” and new single “Give It 2 U” are examples of the singer’s new sound, which comes courtesy of producers like Pharrell and Dr. Luke. Like his counterparts Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars, Thicke takes influence from the groovy sounds of ’70s disco and soul, yet his full-bodied voice keeps the songs from becoming too generic. Check out the album snippets below before Blurred Lines releases on July 30.
