Jay-Z’s Favorite Things: What We Learned From Hov’s Impromptu Twitter Q&A

For about seven hours on Monday (July 8), Jay-Z pulled off a Twitter takeover. Unlike the structured, much-publicized rollout of Magna Carta Holy Grail, Hov’s Twitter Q&A began without warning and had an arbitrary endpoint. He was in a particularly jocular mood, joking with fans and haters alike, but he also managed to offer up some pretty interesting bits of news and opinion — everything from candid thoughts on his own discography to his favorite methods of carb intake.

While a lot of the MCHG details were enlightening (for instance: “Open Letter” was left off because he’s releasing it on vinyl through Jack White‘s Third Man Records, and Frank Ocean collab “Oceans” is two years old), it was the more random stuff that really grabbed us (such as his thoughts on Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus).

But if you missed out on the action because you were, ya know, doing your job or attending class like a productive member of society, don’t worry! We’ve compiled the important lessons from Jay-Z’s Twitter marathon below.

1. Here is Jay-Z’s official ranking of his top 4 albums (what say you, Stereogum?)

2. Jay has a favorite Britney Spears song, and it is “Toxic.”

3. He also has a favorite Michael Jackson song.

4. His favorite movie may be a cliche, but at least it’s not Scarface

5. Jay-Z doesn’t like puns.

6. Instead, he prefers subtler jokes.

7. OK fine he likes some cheap wordplay after all.

8. Hov reps the Cap’n.

9. He has moved on from lobster and scrimp.

10. He has more thoughts on Miley Cyrus!

Bonus round: Miley responded!

11. There were no Ye-Jay collabs on Yeezus or MCHG because they’re saving the material for Watch The Throne 2.

12. Mo’ money, mo’ problems.

13. He takes criticism like a champ.

14. Fans are basically his favorite thing.

15. Besides, perhaps, Picassos.

16. He lives in a castle, basically.

17. Jay-Z has no idea why he did the Twitter Q&A.
