Justin Timberlake‘s new single “Take Back The Night” is meant to be a feel-good disco groove, but the singer is finding himself in hot water with the sexual assault awareness organization also called Take Back The Night — how awkward. Radar Online reports that the foundation’s Executive Director Katherine Koestner says Timberlake used their name without permission and that legal documents have already been sent to him.

“Everyone at Take Back the Night is really shocked, because normally, we get asked when people want to use the name. Normally entities as large as Justin Timberlake do very kind and thoughtful things to support our cause,” Koestner says. Thanks to the performer’s new song making waves, the original definition of Take Back The Night has an entirely different meaning, which becomes a major problem for the organization.

Koestner cites Timberlake’s sexual lyrics in the song that contridicts their message. She also states that they tried to contact Timberlake prior to the song being released: “His legal agent got back to us and said they’re sorry. His agent said ‘Justin’s a good guy! He’s a family man!’ They claimed he’d never heard of us before he wrote that song. I don’t know what country he’s been in. I suppose it could have slipped off his radar screen somehow. Somebody working for him definitely messed up.”

Timberlake has yet to comment on the topic, but hopefully he’ll use this incident to shed light on a serious issue.
