Demi Lovato’s “Made In The USA” Video: Watch The All-American Clip

After tackling an edgier look in the clip for “Heart Attack,” Demi Lovato has taken a sharp right (and rather patriotic) turn with “Made In The USA,” her sophomore single from her self-titled album. As the title suggests, it’s an ode to an all-American love affair — and it was directed by Lovato herself, which is pretty badass. (As are most Demi-related things, in fairness.)

But there’s a conservatism and safety to this video that’s probably a smart bid for her with her more mainstream fans; the clip follows the story of two star-crossed lovers, the girl next door and the boy she loves, who joins the military and goes away to war. Fortunately, there’s (spoiler alert!) a happy ending. If it hews closely too convention — a glowing brunette Demi beaming as she sings at a carnival, intercut with footage that’s narratively ripped from a Nicholas Sparks novel — it works pretty well for that reason.

Watch up top.
