Budding Nickelodeon star-turned-pop singer Ariana Grande performed current singles “Baby I” and “The Way” for Cumulus Radio, but she did so with a twist. In these all-acoustic renditions — backed, mind you, solely by Justin Bieber‘s musical director Dan Kanter on acoustic guitar — Grande continued to show why her forthcoming debut Yours Truly will be worth hearing: not just for the ’90s nostalgia trip (“Baby I” is produced by Babyface), but also to hear a promising new voice.
Grande’s voice is airy and sweet, but most importantly it’s agile, which is crucial to both pulling off the vocal runs in “Baby I” and easing listeners into the innocent love letter “The Way.” Watch her performance up top.
