When Ariana Grande heard that The Wanted‘s Nathan Sykes was to be in Atlanta, she realized that she had a rare chance to unveil their duet off her debut LP, Yours Truly. The next day, inside the city’s Philips Arena and during her last-ever opening slot on Justin Bieber‘s Believe Tour, Grande brought Sykes out to perform “Almost Is Never Enough” for the first time.

By then the rising pop star had previewed the spare R&B ballad, revealing the song to be the sort that could have concluded Brandy‘s Never Say Never. However, the live debut continued to show how the song’s arrangements and vocal leaps feel staggeringly mature for Grande, former Nickelodeon star at only 19, and even Sykes. (Remember, Sykes has had to speak out on a boy band feud.)

All of that is to say: Good going, Grande. Watch the live debut of “Almost Is Never Enough” up top.
