Another New York City rapper has weighed in on Kendrick Lamar‘s claim to the NYC throne from his controversial “Control” verse. This time it’s Wu-Tang Clan‘s Raekwon, who offers up his nomination for the true King of New York title. “All I’mma say is that niggas know he ain’t the king of New York. The king of New York to me is in the ground and that’s B.I.G.,” he said in a recent chat with Harry Fraud. “That’s the nigga that came from the bottom with it for real, and really earned that positioning in the game to be called that.”

Hard to argue with that selection. Raekwon, like most critics of K-Dot’s grab for the New York crown, still had compliments for the overall verse. “Your darts supposed to be like that. It was good strategy, it was all a lot of fun. It’s hip-hop, man. Let hip-hop be hip-hop.”

Harlem MC A$AP Rocky struck a similar chord this week, when he told Hot 97 that his buddy Kendrick must be “on crack” and “crazy” to make that claim, before adding, “I think hip-hop needs this shit[…] He said these is my niggas and I’m lettin’ ya’ll know it’s competition. What’s the problem?” Nas also offered a vague response, ultimately concluding that “This is what hip-hop is all about.”
