Kanye West sat for his first TV interview since 2010, to talk about how his family, old (mother Donda West, his grandfather) and new (beau Kim Kardashian, baby North West), has continued to inspire him. The venue? Fox’s daytime talk show Kris, hosted by Kardashian’s mother Kris Jenner.

West sounded at ease, even more so than in his high-profile New York Times interview promoting Yeezus. He stressed how much he loved Jenner’s daughter Kim — which, by the way, is to the point that he will deal with paparazzi. He confessed of how his relationship and the birth of North rejuvenated him, even after other family members passed away. (Watch these clips after the jump.)

The G.O.O.D Music mogul even said that, as a father, he understands completely why being all, “I’ma let you finish…” to Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards was inappropriate. “Even at my lowest points, the last thing I would want to happen to my daughter is some crazy, drunk black guy in a leather shirt to come up and cut her off at an award show, right?”

But in attempts to praise him, Jenner slipped up. “You’re the softest, sweetest — I mean, you guys cannot even believe what’s going on at that house, like magical.” As if he understood her intentions, West gently corrected her. “Please don’t call me soft, as a rapper,” he said. West may be a father, but he hasn’t changed completely.
