Charli XCX has a hit song under her belt with Icona Pop‘s “I Love It,” which she penned, but she could take a leap into the realm of pop’s premier songwriters now that she has been enlisted to write on Britney Spears‘ forthcoming album. “I’ve been doing some writing for the Britney record,” Charli told Digital Spy. “I was freaking out. I didn’t even want to go to the session, I was so excited. I was so worried I would fuck it up.”

The Londoner added, “We’ve written one song and it’s a great track and if she likes it then amazing. It was just an honor to be asked.” We hope it makes the cut: Charli takes huge inspiration, in terms of music and fashion, from the late ’90s pop boom, so she’s surely up to speed on what works with Britney.

Charli is the latest in a long list of Spears collaborators revealed for this album. Will.i.am is executive producing the effort, with Hit-Boy, William Orbit and Naughty Boy doing some production, while Sia has been enlisted to write. We know a lot about the architects of the sound, and what they’re saying to describe it, but it looks like we’ll finally get an actual preview of the LP on September 17, according to an “All Eyes On Me” countdown on Brit’s site.
