Ariana Grande & Jimmy Fallon Do Broadway Versions Of Rap Songs: Watch
With her debut album Yours Truly, Ariana Grande offered an unapologetic throwback to Mariah Carey‘s heyday. And with her album poised to (possibly) top the Billboard 200, Grande perched on a piano to face Jimmy Fallon last night and said, “What what,” in between Broadway versions of rap songs. (What.)
The Late Night bit turned out to be a last-minute addition to its September 6 line-up, but the good-natured Grande barely blinked as she belted the hooks to Jay Z‘s “99 Problems,” Cypress Hill‘s “Insane in the Brain” and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ “Thrift Shop.”
It’s short and silly, but perhaps the most bizarre part came after it was finished, when Fallon told us all to check Ariana out on Nickelodeon’s Sam & Cat, Saturdays at 8 p.m. After this — and certainly after the release of Yours Truly — Grande’s kiddie sitcom present feels more like a distant memory.
