Kylie Minogue and Laura Pausini make strange but surprisingly enticing bedfellows on new duet “Limpido”. The soaring mid-tempo rock ballad takes the Australian diva well and truly out of her dance-pop comfort zone but, ever the chameleon, Kylie rises to the challenge and delivers a brilliant vocal.

She tackles her parts in English, while Laura sticks to her native Italian — belting out her verses with an emotional fury that underlines her status as one of Europe’s finest singers. Multi-lingual duets can often sound disjointed, which these flawless icons avoid by teaming up for the chorus.

So what does it all mean? “Limpido” literally translates as “clean” and the lyrics address moving forward in relationships. “letting go, no more fighting,” Kylie sings. “Time will show you what you mean to me.” The winning track has already hit number one on Italian iTunes and looks set to be a continental smash. Listen after the jump.
