Bonnaroo 2013: Charli XCX Talks Songwriting Superstardom & Stateside Success

June 19th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

This year’s line-up at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee wasn’t a particularly pop-heavy line-up, but even if it had been, Charli XCX still would have been my favorite: The alt-pop siren is an electrifying performer, a prodigious songwriter and one of the most sincerely likable people you’re liable to meet anywhere. (Yes, even at Bonnaroo.)

Sitting in the Tennessee sunshine after her performance, Charli and I covered a lot of ground — from her journey to success to the shape of the rest of her year — but most noteworthy was what she revealed about her plans to turn into a one-woman hit factory after seeing the success of her co-write with Icona Pop, the ubiquitous “I Love It”: ”I’m doing some big sessions over the next two months,” she said. “It’s kind of what I’m focusing on.” Mum’s the word on which artists might be cutting her tracks, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they’ll be pretty major.

Watch Rihanna Purposely Hit A Fan With Her Mic

June 19th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

Rihanna went all badgalriri on an overenthusiastic fan at a recent concert on her Diamonds tour. The star was doing “We Found Love” up by the front row, amidst the outstretched arms of fans, when she allegedly hit one with her microphone, presumably after the person became too grabby. The below video shows the incident on the Jumbotron, although it’s tough to make out exactly what happens. There’s definitely a thumping sound that coincides with RiRi thrusting the mic away from her face and into the crowd.

A similar incident happened at a recent Beyonce concert, when a fan smacked Bey’s booty, and the star quickly scolded the perpetrator. Anyway, this is a good lesson for Rihanna fans: no touching, unless she’s giving you a lapdance. More »

Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop”: Watch The Wild, Bizarre Video

Miley Cyrus We Can't Stop Video
Nope, She Can't

It’s a new day for Miley Cyrus, and that means the erstwhile Disney princess has gone full-blown provocateur with the video for her (intensely amazing) new single “We Can’t Stop” — and I don’t mean “Can’t Be Tamed”-style caged-bird provocateur, but more like, I dunno. Weird? Dark? Sexy? Arty? Ballsy? Disturbing? Dope? Probably pretty polarizing? It’s a lot of things.

The Diane Martel-directed clip has a sort of unsettling, voyeuristic sexualized grossness to it — there’s a lot of gyrating and thrusting and some twerking (as well as the word “TWERK” spelled out in alphabet soup), and weird food things and body things. It’s like a party at Terry Richardson‘s house as filmed by David Fincher that you’re watching after drinking an entire bottle of Robitussin. More »

Go Cruising With Mr. 305 Featuring Pitbull & Friends’ “Driving Around”: Idolator Premiere

June 19th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

Pitbull is known for boastful, high-energy dance tracks that are inescapable at any club, but the rapper slows things down with his new single “Driving Around” — which we’re stoked to premiere! The tune still has that pulsating electronic bass line that he’s known for, but it is surprisingly mellow — thanks to Vein‘s dreamy vocals. The song also features David Rush, and both artists have been featured on Pitbull’s prior albums.

“Driving Around” is the first single from the forthcoming album Mr. 305 featuring Pitbull and Friends: International Takeover, which will be released on July 9. Pitbull, along with producer Jim Jonsin, enlisted a bunch of their music friends for the new record, including Trina, Baby Bash and more. Head below to hear the lead single and to check out the album’s tracklist. More »

Street Life Swag

With her new album Talk A Good Game finally in stores, Kelly Rowland is stepping up her promo game. The singer stopped by Good Morning America today (June 19) to perform “Street Life” with Pusha T. Dressed in an all-black leather, belly-baring outfit, the singer showed off her swagged-out dance moves.

But the appearance didn’t end there! Rowland also gave a little taste of her upcoming “Dirty Laundry” video, which looks fittingly emotional given the song’s subject matter. Catch the performance up top and check out the “Dirty Laundry” teaser after the jump.
