Kanye West Will Take ‘Yeezus’ On The Road. None Of Us Are Ready.

June 18th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

Kanye West is bringing the mind-bending, genre-disintegrating Yeezus experience to a stadium near you. Album producer Mike Dean confirmed that a tour is indeed on the way during an AMA session on Reddit. He will be part of the new dad’s touring band.

It’s been a while since Kanye hit the road. He skipped touring My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in 2010 – choosing to join Jay-Z for Watch the Throne live shows instead. Given Yeezy’s unique, multimedia approach to promotion, the Yeezus tour promises to be a trip. Perhaps we’ll even get more of that Scott Disick-starring, American Psycho-inspired mini-movie. More »

Miley Cyrus Talks Marijuana In July ‘Rolling Stone’

June 18th, 2013 // 2 Comments

Miley Cyrus is here for marijuana. In the July edition of Rolling Stone, the “We Can’t Stop” singer talks about those persistent drug rumors – all but admitting she smokes the green stuff. “I did a song with Snoop Dogg called ‘Ashtrays and Heartbreaks‘, so people can put it together for themselves,” the 20-year-old told Rob Tannenbaum. That’s pretty much code for ‘I have a gigantic bong and fire it up whenever possible’.

The twerk-pioneer was adamant in her support for kush, saying: “I think alcohol is way more dangerous than marijuana – people can be mad at me for saying that, but I don’t care. I’ve seen a lot of people spiral down with alcohol, but I’ve never seen that happen with weed.” No doubt, these revelations will shock some of the star’s younger fans but this is Miley 2.0. And she clearly DGAF. More »

Backstreet’s back (alright) with “In A World Like This,” the lead single from Backstreet Boysupcoming eighth studio album of the same name. Back in April, BSB spoke of a “smash” collaboration with Max Martin and the end result is the album’s breezy title track. The boy band and the Swedish hitmaker have a long history together, dating all the way back to 1996′s “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” and further hits “As Long As You Love Me” and “I Want It That Way.”

The man band’s newest single is a straight-up pop track with dance sensibilities, and production by Martin and fellow Swede Kristian Lundin complements the Boys’ classic, tight harmonies on the uptempo summer jam. We think it has the potential to attract the attention of many casual fans who may have moved on from the group in recent years. Debuting just ahead of the new album‘s July 30 release and the band’s 20th anniversary tour, ”In A World Like This” is the beginning of an exciting summer for Backstreet Boys fans. Pharrell’s ‘Despicable Me 2′ Single Gets A “Happy” Lyric Video: Watch

Happy Happy, Joy Joy

Who knew 2013 would be such a strong year for singles from children’s movies? Beyonce‘s “Rise Up” from EpicBritney Spears‘ “Ooh La La” from Smurfs 2 and Pharrell‘s “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 all dropped in recent weeks. And, sure, none of these are on the level of, say, Elton John‘s The Lion King work, but Brit and Pharrell’s offerings in particular are really good! They’re sugary and sticky enough for kids to eat up, but they showcase the complex pop flavors that actual developed beings with a more refined palate can appreciate, too.

We immediately fell in love with “Happy” when it was unveiled back in May, and now we’ve found ourselves revisiting the track thanks to the new lyric video, which is the perfect antidote to the seasonal affective disorder that we’re currently struggling with thanks to New York’s unending April showers. Mikky Ekko Drops Moody New Song “Kids”: Listen

June 18th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

Mikky Ekko is probably best known to pop lovers for writing (and lending his smooth vocals to) Rihanna‘s mega-selling ballad “Stay”. The time has come for the Nashville-based songsmith to return to his own music and he delivers a contemplative – yet still oddly catchy – ditty called “Kids” that should appeal to long-time fans and curious newcomers alike.

The moody track, which premiered on Gorilla Vs. Bear earlier today (June 18), seamlessly blends electronic elements with Mikky’s folk sensibility. “Kids, kids, kids are gonna do what they want,” sings the rising star in his trademark mournful style. The Postal Service’s “A Tattered Line Of String” Gets A Dizzying Video: Watch

Washed Up

The Postal Service have premiered the bonkers video for their Jenny Lewis-assisted “A Tattered Line Of String,” one of two great new tracks from their recently released Give Up reissue. What begins as a normal scene at the laundromat soon turns into a gravity-defying, tumbling showcase of camera magic and set trickery that puts one particular patron through a spin cycle of his own. We’re going to assume it’s all meant to magnify the abject misery that is laundry day.

Check it out up top.
