That New Mike Judge Movie Wanted The Best, And Got Something Vaguely Resembling The Best

I was going to see Extract anyway—describing a movie as “a Mike Judge-directed film starring Jason Bateman as a beleaguered owner of an extract plant, in which J.K. Simmons also has a role” pretty much guarantees that I’ll plunk down my $10—but this clip of the film, starring a very special Friend Of Idolator Who Might Be A Bit Confused About My Gender Even Now, has made me excited enough about the movie to almost not mind that the ever-irritating Kristen Wiig will be making awkward-Midwestern-lady faces in it too. Damn you, cameos! You always get me! [YouTube; HT MORE »

Tom Waits Is The Devil (But American Audiences Might Never Find Out)

tomisthedevilThe trailer for Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus—which features Tom Waits as the devil himself, and also has the final filmed performance by Heath Ledger before his death last year—debuted online yesterday, and according to our pals at Movieline it hasn’t picked up a U.S. distributor yet. This despite it featuring not one but two popular musicians (in addition to Waits, former P bassist Johnny Depp plays a role in the flick) and looking mind-bogglingly awesome. Plus, I mean, Tom Waits playing Satan, come on. The trailer’s after the jump. MORE »

Justin Timberlake, Multiplex-Busting Superhero?

justinlanternThe Hollywood Reporter is claiming that Justin Timberlake is one of the three people up for the title role in Warner Bros. big-screen adaptation of the comic book The Green Lantern, which is set to land in theaters come December 2010. Timberlake’s two chief rivals for the role are reportedly Ryan “Van Wilder” Reynolds and Bradley “The Studio Likes Me Right Now Because The Hangover Made A Lot Of Money” Cooper. MORE »

Michael Jackson And Eric Roberts, Together On Film

michaeljacksonOur pals at Movieline have dug up some footage from Miss Cast Away—a hybrid of Airplane!, Lost, and late-night Cinemax movies that stars Eric Roberts–that features Michael Jackson in what was probably his last starring role in a flick intended for commercial release. (The IMDB description calls it “A spoof that combines Cast Away with Miss Congeniality, Planet of the Apes, Love Boat, Gilligan’s Island, The Sixth Sense, Jurassic Park, and more.” Whew.) Jackson plays “Agent MJ,” a spoof of his Men In Black 2 character who has ominous things to say about destroying an ark, one that just so happens to be located on an island where Roberts and a bunch of beauty queens have crashed. If you dare, the trailer is after the jump. MORE »

Eve To Shake Her Tambourine Around William McKinley High School This Fall

So what do you guys think will happen first: Eve’s two-episode arc on the show-choir Fox drama Glee or the release of her eternally delayed fourth album, now called Flirt? Although I guess with the way Glee helped push Journey back onto the pop charts last month, perhaps the lapsed MC is making a smart marketing move here. [Ausiello Files / Dailymotion] MORE »

mvRaise your hand if you were expecting Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno to have former Milli Vanilli member Rob Pilatus (a.k.a. “the dead one”) as an unwitting guest star: “There’s an eye-popping montage of extreme gay sex practices (imaginary, one hopes), a surfeit of waving penises, dildos, fetish gear, anal bleaching, and an excruciating mime in which BrĂ¼no fellates the ghost of a deceased member of Milli Vanilli in front of a psychic.” Um… well, perhaps this heightened visibility will result in Sony Music finally undeleting Girl You Know It’s True from its catalog? Publicity is publicity! [Guardian via The Awl] MORE »

imagesAlessandra Torresani–who played Ann Veal on Arrested Development for one episode, and who’s apparently pals with Adam Lambert–has been cast as Lita Ford in Cherry Bomb, the Floria Sigismondi-directed Runaways biopic. Upon being asked about Ford as an inspiration, Torresani did not reply with a dismissive “Her?”–instead, she raved about her new job and the chance to meet Ford and hear all the stories of the old Sunset Strip scene.
