Brad Nowell’s Family To Ex-Sublime Mates: Rights To The Band’s Name Is What We’ve Got (Remember That)

sublimeBack in March, Floyd “Bud” Gaugh and Eric Wilson, the two surviving members of stoner-punk outfit Sublime, played a show with lead singer Rome Ramirez where they ran through some tunes by their former band. Rumors that a tour in which the duties of deceased lead guy Bradley Nowell would be taken on by Ramirez followed, and they were soon confirmed by the announcement that the band would be playing the Cypress Hill-helmed Smokeout Festival (of course) this weekend. The Nowell family, as you might expect, is not all that pleased with this development! A statement they released today: MORE »

Davy Jones: So Mad At His Former Bandmates, You’d Think One Of Them Served Him A Glass Of Cold Gravy With A Hair In It

Davy “The Cute One” Jones has abandoned all pretense of being nice to his former Monkees-mates, exploding in a recent interview: Micky Dolenz won’t stay behind the drums where he belongs! Michael Nesmith has his head up his ass, and also is not an “entertainer”! And finally, Peter Tork “joined a one-man band and gave it up over musical differences!” (OK, that last line is funny, I have to admit.) For some reason Tork decided to rebut Jones’ accusations of being difficult by talking about how he has a decent number of Facebook fans, which sort of makes no sense but I guess would work in the context of a surrealistic, Internet-based sequel to Head. Maybe? [Radar / YouTube] MORE »

Rush Limbaugh To Jay-Z: Get Off My Back (And My Other Body Parts, Too)

wecantalljustgetalongFollowing the lead of fellow target Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh responded to his being singled out for criticism in Jay-Z’s new single “Off That” with a riposte of his own… that somehow turned into a rant about President Barack Obama being a bad thing for American males’ most precious bits. Bill O’Reilly Takes Jay-Z’s Bait

Jay’s dis of Bill O’Reilly on his new single “Off That,” as predicted from the moment it first dropped, garnered a free plug for Blueprint 3 on last night’s O’Reilly Factor. Never let it be said that Jay’s desire for maximum bloggability doesn’t extend to the political end of the ’sphere! [YouTube via Rap Radar] MORE »

Jill Sobule Finally Lets Her “Katy Perry Sucks” Flag Fly

kissandmakeupWhen Katy Perry’s Girls Gone Semi-Wild For The Sake Of Riling Up Any Men Around song “I Kissed A Girl” first made inroads into the pop consciousness, singer/songwriter Jill Sobule—who’d made a few alt-rock waves with an identically titled, yet 10% as annoying track 13 years earlier—was semi-diplomatic. “Katy Perry’s song is a kind of catchy party song,” Sobule told Entertainment Weekly, “although I will admit that I do smile when a critique mentions my version in a more favorable light. Is that wrong?” Well, a lot can happen over 14-ish months, and such was the case with Sobule, who in an interview with the online mag The Rumpus dropped any sense of diplomacy and went straight to name-calling. Also swearing! MORE »

Eminem Continues To Lose Himself In His Beef With Mariah Carey

eminemIn an effort to keep everyone’s name in the gossip columns set the record straight about his prior involvements with Mariah Carey, Eminem has released “The Warning,” a few minutes of invective pointed directly at the floundering singer and her semi-courageous husband Nick Cannon, who have been acting cute about whether the Mimi-crazed guy played by Mariah in her video for “Obsessed” is actually supposed to represent one Marshall Mathers. It would seem as if Em isn’t really believing their denials! “The Warning” talks about the trajectory of Mariah and Em’s “relationship” (complete with self-mockery over his sexual prowess), drops in coos from a Mimi soundalike, and throws down a few threats over the release of photos and voicemails that would apparently prove that the two were an item for a while, contrary to Carey’s assertions. Courtney Love Is Not All That Convinced By Taylor Momsen

myspace-presents-taylor-momsen-s-large-msg-124889664333Gossip Girl starlet / aspiring rocker Taylor Momsen turned 16 earlier this week, and she’s finally received her birthday gift from Courtney Love: A big old stream of invective over her basically inviting comparisons to the former Hole singer with her sartorial choices of blonde mop, red lipstick, eyeliner, and baby-doll dresses. Love, apparently sent over the edge by reports from a show by Momsen’s band, The Pretty Reckless, that name-dropped her as much as they did Momsen’s Gossip Girl co-stars, let her Tweet flag fly at near Momsen last night: MORE »

This Just In: James Blunt Still Sucks

alvsjamesAccordion-wielding parodist “Weird Al” Yankovic is compiling another greatest-hits collection for release this fall, and he wants your help as far as song-selection goes. One song that definitely won’t be on the collection, however, is “You’re Pitiful.” Yankovic’s remake of James Blunt’s mewly, unkillable “You’re Beautiful,” which centers on a guy who takes being white and nerdy to an uncomfortable, Slurpee-filled level, was an “unofficial” “Weird Al” release thanks to Atlantic Records, Blunt’s label, barring its release back in 2006—even though at the time, the singer himself had been OK with the release of the track: MORE »

The Collective Soul/Gavin DeGraw Throwdown In Myrtle Beach: Heaven, Let Your Punches Shine Down

gavincollectivesoulGavin DeGraw and Collective Soul, who have been touring together, took some time out of their busy schedule to engage in a blood-shedding brawl with some hecklers at the House Of Blues in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Sunday night. If the account on DeGraw’s Twitter is to be believed, the whole thing appeared to be borne out of the need to defend one’s honor against accusations of wussiness: MORE »
