Stan Bush Tries To Transform “The Touch” Into A Linkin Park Song

Corporate rock stalwart Stan Bush has given “The Touch” a nu-metal makeover, complete with mournful piano, slightly awkward rapping, and dropped-in-from-another-session guitar solo. It would seem that Bush is hoping that “The Touch ‘09″ will be included on the soundtrack to Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen–although given that the actual Linkin Park already has a place on that particular album, I would think that the producers are preparing to blow him off with the “diversity of genre” excuse. After all that work they did on the video and everything! Compare the new track to the original, located after the jump. MORE »

Afroman Is Here To Remind Us That Drug Abuse Can Really Screw Up Your Copyrights

frobamaYou know, I thought the THC-filled patriotism splashed across the cover of Frobama: Head Of State–the new album by the chronically high, Grammy-nominated Afroman–was going to be the best thing about today. But then Jeff Rosenthal said to me “Someone just said that he made ‘Because I Got High 2009′?,” and things brightened a little bit more. MORE »

freestyleMyrtle Beach, S.C., may be burning, but that didn’t stop the owners of the amusement park formerly known as Hard Rock Park–still musically inspired, but now called Freestyle Music Park–from unveiling its new rides for kids today. The area is called Kids In America; the rides, Get Off My Cloud, Fly Like an Eagle, Wheels in the Sky and Life Is a Highway. The songs are kind of moldy for a kiddie-themed area, no doubt because the parents need to be entertained, too. [Myrtle Beach Sun News] MORE »

Would You Pay To See Michael Jackson Perform Live?

Sky News is reporting that Michael Jackson—who turned 50 last August—is set to play a series of comeback concerts at London’s O2 Arena this summer, and that if demand is high enough the run could be as long as Prince’s 21-show stint at the arena in 2006. It could be a good way to make some money for the King Of Pop, whose last major live appearance occurred when he sang a few off-key bars of “We Are The World” at the World Music Awards two-ish years ago. But since then, his appearances have revealed him to be frail (and pajama-clad), and he’s been rumored to be on the verge of death. Will Jackson be able to recapture the magic of the moments placed after the cut? Or will this run of shows fall apart before the summer starts? MORE »

@K-Rex: Hmmm, there are only really three videos that I can think of where he was a "gangster" and they were all excellent. "Smooth Criminal", "Bad" and "Beat It". Am I missing something?

Britney Spears: No, She Can’t (Speak To You Without A Chaperone)

Britney Spears’ triumphant comeback lost a little bit more of its romantic luster today, thanks to Rolling Stone publishing an interview with writer Jenny Eliscu where she opens up about how Spears had become much more sheltered between the time the two first met in the summer of 2001—when a chatty Spears walked Eliscu through her then-new Hollywood Hills mansion—and earlier this year, when there were instances where the two people breathed the same airspace, but didn’t speak to one another. Eliscu also talks about how Spears’ legal status affected her reporting: MORE »

@phaballa: That's exactly what I was thinking. Has Eliscu completely forgotten what Britney was like less than a year ago? There's a world of difference between "crazy things artists do" and having to be restrained and taken to a psychiatric hospital after going on a 4-day bender and holding a pair of toddlers hostage.

I'm not saying that the level of control around this adult woman isn't a little unsettling on its face. But the reason she's being treated as non compos mentis (nice spelling there, RS) is because she mostly likely is non compos mentis when she goes off her medication, something bipolar individuals are notorious for doing once they feel better.

The Return Of Eminem: Too Little, Too Late?

Early reactions to Eminem’s comeback (now in progress!) seem, well, sort of split. The reaction to “I’m Having A Relapse, which leaked yesterday, seems to be about 75% as loud as the buzz surrounding his new book, The Way I Am. However, nothing would make me happier in this mixed up music biz than if this record–which is allegedly going to come out as part of the Great Rush To The Exits Of Q4 2008–bombed. MORE »

Rick Astley, “Family Guy” Fan

The Manchester Evening News has a charming profile of the long-in-hiding blue-eyed soul singer Rick Astley, who opted out from stardom in 1993 but is touring this summer on the Here and Now Tour. (That’s the tour where artists’ set lengths are determined by the number of big hits they had.) MORE »

Oh, I think Nick Lowe had it right when he famously rhymed "Astley" with "ghastly."
