Kelly Rowland Gets Bluesy On Her “Lay It On Me” Single Cover

July 26th, 2011 // Leave a Comment

Kelly Rowland is knee-deep in her blue period, as the Here I Am siren strikes a pose on her “Lay It On Me” single cover. Rowland might be shaded in some cool indigo tones, but she’s not feeling all that blue about producer Jeff Bhasker’s slam of her single “Motivation”: “There’s no reason for me to say anything negative,” she said while appearing on BET. “‘Cause I won’t tell you the thought that is really in my head. I’ll just kill ‘em with kindness.”

Rihanna Toasts Her “Cheers” Single Cover From Her Convertible

July 26th, 2011 // 1 Comment

“Cheers to you!” MTV VMA nominee Rihanna tweeted last night while posting the cover art for “Cheers,” the sixth single off her Loud LP. So let’s see…“Only Girl (In The World),” “What’s My Name” and “S&M” — a threepeat of #1s. “Man Down” and “California King Bed” — a disappointing (chart-wise) double-decker. Do you think the Avril Lavigne-sampling “Cheers” can match the success of the early Loud singles? And more importantly — where’s the single release for “Fading”?

Cobra Starship’s ‘Night Shades’ Cover Art Is A Smash

July 20th, 2011 // 2 Comments

The trashtastic cover of Cobra Starship’s last studio release, 2009′s Hot Mess, was bad enough to win the top spot in our annual Worst Album Cover Art list. We are relieved to see that the cover for their new LP Night Shades manages to keep it edgy, yet stylish and classy. (LMFAO – learn from this.) Jump below to check out the pop-punk (or is it now pop-dance?) group’s track listing, which manages to give us the bird with a song called “Middle Finger.” So much for that class.

Rebecca Black’s “My Moment” Single Cover — Not A Lot Of Fun, Fun, Fun, Fun

July 12th, 2011 // 1 Comment

Does Rebecca Black and her team (yes, the 13-year-old Internet star no doubt has a “team” at this point) realize that people were so enraptured with her song “Friday” because it was unintentionally hilarious? Black’s follow-up single, “My Moment”, sounds like it’s playing it straight, which is all wrong for a girl who appears to be in on the joke. But even if it’s done for laughs, there’s no way Team Rebecca could come up with something as funny on purpose as they did when genuinely trying to tell us the order of the days of the week. The video for “My Moment” drops on Monday on YouTube.

“Show Me What I’m Looking For” hit-makers Carolina Liar are set to self-release sophomore album Wild Blessed Freedom on September 27. And as you might guess from the LP’s title and allusions to “running wild” and being “set free” in lead single “Drown” (available on iTunes July 12), the band is all about turning a new page with their new material, on which they worked with producers like Max Martin and Shellback. “Setting yourself free is the overall theme of the record,” frontman Chad Wolf tells Idolator. “It’s part of every song, from ‘Salvation’ to ‘Drown’ and even the cover art.”
