How best to rescue the buzz from eating itself? Well, apparently Mariah’s people have decided to enlist factually challenged gossip Roger Friedman, who’s never afraid to cover his sleeves with PR-company-donated hearts, to help kickstart the latest phase of the Mimi spin cycle into action. Did you know that, contrary to every piece of press that accompanied its release, “Obsessed” is not the first single from Memoirs, and never was intended to be? The most recent push-back for Mariah Carey’s Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel is now official, with Billboard passing along the rumor that the record’s delay was because Mimi’s label, Def Jam, had sent the singer back into the studio to record more songs. Mariah hasn’t spoken up about the setback yet on Twitter—there are, however, three updates from an employee of her Web site who goes by the name of “Gina”—but judging by her fans’ reactions to the Billboard piece, tensions among the lambs are running high! Coming on the heels of a subpar performance on NBC’s televised variety show America’s Got Talent, songbird Mariah Carey has pulled out of her Aug. 28 performance on that same network’s Today and reportedly decided to hold off on other appearances. U2’s Stage Setup Causes Some Of Their Fellow Countrymen To Get Their Irish Up
U2’s claw-like stage for its current world tour has been something of a boon for the band, at least as far as opening up formerly obstructed seats. But for people living near the tour’s stops, the custom-built stage—and its attendant video equipment—have caused literal headaches, thanks to their taking a really long time to set up and take down. Residents near Croke Park in Dublin, where U2 just wrapped up a three-night residency, got so mad, they got to picketing. This nugget was buried at the bottom of a Billboard piece on this summer’s many delayed albums: “Singer Amerie’s long-awaited return, “In Love & War,” which originally was scheduled for an Aug. 11 release, will be available Sept. 8.” Oh… jeez… getting… flashbacks… Def Jam, take me away! The Latest Release Date For Lil Wayne’s “Rebirth”: The Tenth Of Whenever?
Simon Vozick-Levinson at Entertainment Weekly worked his virtual shoe-leather and tried to figure out when Lil Wayne’s Rebirth was actually coming out. The answer he got? Well, after one unnamed Universal Music Group employee told him “[Lil Wayne's UMG subsidiary] Cash Money just changes their dates whenever they want to,” he ballparked the date as being sometime in October; another person who works at Cash Money then said even that estimate was too early, telling Vozick-Levinson that they were “talking about holiday [season].” At this rate, Lil Wayne’s long-delayed rock album might actually be the last new CD to ever appear in stores.
