Barenaked Ladies Lead Singer Rides His Big Ship Into The Sunset

It’s been, um, a few weeks since the Barenaked Ladies returned from their Ships & Dip cruise through the Caribbean, and I guess that means it’s been long enough for lead singer Steven Page to think about going solo. Yes, he’s leaving the band to “pursue solo projects including theatrical opportunities” (ooh, maybe FedEx Man: The Musicalis really going to happen!) while the rest of the guys soldier on. Full statement after the jump. MORE »

The interplay between Steve and Ed was such a huge part of the show, and even a lot of the songs. It will be interesting to see what directions the two branches take.

As an admitted fanboy, I've liked at least a few songs off all of their albums. Though I think the mid 90's albums were their strongest.

Keytarist Quits Band… Does Its Name Even Matter?

I never heard of the band Showbread before learning that its keytarist John “JG” Giddens had quit, and now I’m conflicted. Why? Because as much as I love the concept of a “keytarist” quitting a band in 2008 (or any year, really), this band seemed to benefit greatly from having a keytarist. Most young Christian post-hardcore bands today would. Showbread is determined to march on, however. MORE »

CSS bassist Ira Trevisan has left the infectious Brazillian dance-pop group. “I decided to move forward and dedicate more of my time to fashion and other projects. Just a big change of priorities, as I will never stop playing music. I am also a bit worried about climate change. MORE »

Bobby Valentino Leaves Def Jam, Loves Bloggers

wenn820193.jpgBobby Valentino has left his contract with Def Jam records, seemingly because he (like everyone here at Idolator), was bummed at the lack of attention his last album, Special Occasion, and its outstanding Timbaland-assisted single “Anonymous” received. He claims to still be cool with former label Disturbing Tha Peace and its owner Ludacris (”I was with them last night at the club”), and that he’s just psyched to be one of those independent, digitally oriented artists you hear so much about these days. MTV President Stepping Down At The End Of The Month

77110896.jpgMTV president Christina Norman, who started at the company as a freelance production manager 17 years ago and worked her way up to the top gig, is leaving the network at the end of February. During her tenure at MTV Networks, Norman invented the term “Celebreality” and started the annual Hip Hop Honors, and she also helped launch MTV2. No replacement has been named yet, though Van Toffler, who penned the memo announcing her departure, will fill her role in the interim. Possibly of note in Toffler’s memo: He goes to great pains to notice that she started at the company as a freelancer–no doubt to fire up the hopes of all those MTV permalancers who didn’t get staff positions a few weeks back. The full memo (via TDS) after the jump. MORE »

Somehow I wouldn't use the word "integrity" when describing the person who introduced "Celebreality" to the world.
