Morrissey Is Still Feeling Pretty Lousy, Thanks For Asking
Mopemaster Morrissey’s Tuesday show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, his first concert since his onstage collapse on Saturday, was marked by what reviewer Priya Elan referred to as “bloated” arrangements of some of his classic tracks and an unhealthy appearance by the man himself. Underlining—and adding lots of exclamation points to—the general sourness in the room was Moz’s alteration of the most sacred of texts, the lyrics to “How Soon Is Now?” MORE »

Morrissey Cancels Show After Saturday Collapse
Miserablist crooner Morrissey collapsed one song in to his Saturday night show in Swindon, England, and was subsequently rushed to a local hospital. (One fan at the show blogged that Moz was clutching his shoulder and wincing during his brief time on stage; another told the BBC, “I didn’t think he looked particularly well but then again, he’s well known as a reclusive character so I sort of thought that was just the way he was when he was on stage.”) He’s now out of the hospital, according to official word, but tonight’s show in Bournemouth, UK, has been postponed on doctor’s orders. (Word on future dates, including tomorrow night’s show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, will presumably come along shortly.) [Morrissey's MySpace Blog] MORE »

Adam Yauch: On The Mend, Eating Vegan
The Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch, recently returned from India, gives fans an update on his recovery from surgery to remove a tumor from his left parotid gland: “i’m feeling healthy, strong and hopeful that i’ve beaten this thing, but of course time will tell. i’m taking tibetan medicine and at the recommendation of the tibetan doctors i’ve been eating a vegan/organic diet, which surprisingly enough was harder to do in india than it is now that i’m back home. here i can just shop for the right food and cook… a lot easier than depending on restaurants.” Also, the band’s new album will, he hopes, come out in the first half of 2010. Backstreet’s Back… At The Doctor
Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell was diagnosed with the swine flu yesterday, one day before the release of his group’s seventh album and just as the guys were about to kick off a run of promo appearances related to the record’s launch. In the above video, a very close-to-the-monitor Littrell apologizes to his fans for the inconvenience, and I have to say that even though I know he’s sick, I’m kind of surprised with how utterly lousy he looks! I mean, I know that this particular strain of flu can be fatal in some cases, but does it always really kick the afflicted person’s metaphorical ass that badly? Because if it does, I am so stocking up on vaccines and vitamins and whatever other preventative measures. [YouTube MORE »

Hayley Williams’ Vocal Cords Are Feeling Misery Right Now
Yesterday was a long day for the Tennessee rock outfit Paramore, who celebrated the release of their new album brand new eyes with an early-morning gig at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, a signing in Chino, and a show at the Fox Theater in Pomona, Calif. That last bit of celebrating proved to be too much for the pipes of lead singer Hayley Williams, who left the stage 11 songs into the band’s set; after about five minutes passed, guitarist Josh Farro came out and told the crowd, “We have a slight issue. Hayley’s voice is shot, completely gone. She’s upset — she feels like she let you guys down. But we’re gonna play some music for you and you guys can sing.” The band then burst into its breakthrough hit “Misery Business” without Williams at the helm—and the crowd filled in ably, if a bit chaotically. Clip after the jump. MORE »

Kelly Clarkson Fans’ Sympathy Ends At Their Wallets
Inaugural American Idol Kelly Clarkson is doing a late-summer tour of state fairs, although breathing in all the greasy midway dust must have gotten to her: She canceled her Sunday night show at the Minnesota State Fair because of undisclosed “vocal issues.” The fair is giving people refunds for their tickets, but that’s not enough to satisfy some people out there. At least, that’s the case according to a Twitter search conducted by Minnesota’s public-radio station! MORE »
Cancellations
Depeche Mode has canceled tonight’s show at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif., because vocalist Dave Gahan has reportedly been ordered to embark on 48 hours of complete vocal rest by a physician. This is the second time that shows on the band’s current world tour have been canceled for medical reasons; this spring, a low-grade tumor was discovered on Gahan’s bladder and the band canceled a series of shows in Europe. As of now, the band’s next show—scheduled for Friday in San Diego—is still on. [SFGate] MORE »

Adam Yauch Diagnosed With A Tumor, Beastie Boys Go On Hiatus
The Beastie Boys have canceled upcoming tour dates and pushed back the release of their forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 because Adam “MCA” Yauch has a cancerous tumor on his left parotid gland, which is one of the body’s major salivary glands. Yauch will be undergoing surgery and treatment and the Beasties will be on hiatus while he recovers. (The tumor isn’t located in a place where it could affect his vocal chords.) He recorded a statement explaining how he found out about his illness and threw it up on YouTube; it’s after the jump. MORE »

Ne-Yo Walks Offstage In Manchester
Last night’s Ne-Yo show in Manchester, England, was cut short early for unknown reasons—the smooth R & B singer left the stage about a half-hour into his performance, although according to members of the audience, he was visibly struggling with his performance for most of his abbreviated set. At one point he broke into tears, saying that he’d never quit a performance before, and he eventually walked offstage. Someone was there with a video camera, and has footage of the incident that, thanks to some screens at the arena, has an angle that’s very up-close and personal to the point of it being sort of uncomfortable.
