‘American Idol’ Finale: Candice Glover Wins, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Adam Lambert Perform

May 17th, 2013 // 10 Comments

By now, you’ve likely already read the big news that Candice Glover was crowned winner of season 12′s American Idol, with fellow finalist Kree Harrison placing as runner-up after America voted on their Wednesday night finale performances. The two-hour finale came exactly four months after this season kicked off with new judges, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

It’s been an eventful season, and not just on stage. Spats between panelists Mariah and Nicki typified almost every episode, and the only original Idol judge, Randy Jackson announced that after 12 seasons, this would be his last. Auditions for the next season are already gearing up and it’s still up in the air who will be sitting on the judges panel. But I have to say, I’ve enjoyed the ups and downs this year, and hope the next is just as strange.

But more importantly, let’s talk about the finale! This was a star-studded event, with performances from the golden honey angel princess, Mariah Carey, as well as Keith Urban, former judge Jennifer Lopez (accompanied by Pitbull), The Band Perry, Adam Lambert, Frankie Valli, Adam Lambert and Jessie J.

Surprised? I mean, how else were they supposed to fill up two hours of “…and the winner is…”? More »

‘American Idol’: Candice Glover & Kree Harrison Bid Angie Miller Farewell, Alicia Keys Performs

May 10th, 2013 // 4 Comments

Wednesday night, top three American Idol contestants, Candice Glover, Kree Harrison and Angie Miller sang their hearts out in three grueling rounds and they didn’t get to pick the songs a single time. The first was chosen for them by resident music mogul, Jimmy Iovine. The second was a choice made by the four Idol judges, Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. The third and final selection was made by the producers of the show.

Thursday allowed us to  see some highlights to remind how each contestant fared,  as well as performances from season 10 Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina and Alicia Keys. Additionally, this episode featured the world premiere of the silliest music video ever, AKA Mariah’s new song with Miguel“#Beautiful.” Somehow, all of this managed to fill an entire hour before, at the final possible second, we learned who the two Season 12 finalists are. ‘American Idol’: Kree Harrison Does Pink’s “Perfect” While Angie Miller Performs “Try”

May 9th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

Oh, what a journey it’s been for us all. Mostly for me, recapping this season of American Idol. I really feel like I’ve grown a lot. Oh, yes, and those contestants, Kree Harrison, Candice Glover and Angie Miller. They’re certainly something, aren’t they? The final three ladies are celebrating making it thus far, and it’s hard to believe that after this week’s voting, we’ll find out who will be making it to the finale.

At this point, it’s all about the tearful reunions for these hometown heroes — a week where the ladies are showered with love and pride from their respective cities of origin. When it comes to heartbreaking, poignant homecomings, Candice and Kree definitely tie for some of the most touching moments. Aaaaaand, Angie had a nice little stop in her local coffee shop.

But let’s not forget, it’s all about the singing, and the ladies are indeed singing for their supper with no less than three selections, none of which they are allowed to choose themselves. Round one is a pick from Jimmy Iovine, round two is from the Idol judges and the final and third round comes from Idol production, whoever that may consist of. Now, let’s get started! More »

‘American Idol’: The Top 4 Perform Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” Before Amber Says Goodbye

May 3rd, 2013 // Leave a Comment

What all the four remaining ladies wanted was a spot in the coveted top three, and after Thursday’s results, that upper tier of women vying for the title of American Idol was finally set. Let me warn you, there were lots of Ford Focus and The Great Gatsby promotions shoved down your throat, so hopefully you were prepared to gag while watching?

However, while the last contestants standing are getting along like gangbusters, judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were famously going at each other during their feedback sessions. Yesterday the Pink Friday singer took to Twitter to continue her Mimi bashing. All in good fun? Or a sign that Jennifer Lopez is returning as a judge next season? I certainly hope not. I would seriously miss the ramblings of my Glittery Unicorn Honey Angel.

‘American Idol’: Candice Glover Kills It, Kree Harrison Fights The Eye Of Sauron

May 2nd, 2013 // Leave a Comment

Last week, American Idol surprised everyone when they decided not to send a single contestant home. Actually, those of us wondering how they are going to fill the remaining weeks of the show with content were probably less surprised than others. Suffice to say, there are still four contestants left, and it’s their job to somehow make these next two hours interesting. Sing, little my pretties, sing!

As the weeks continue, the stress continues to wear on the remaining girls and it’s starting to show in their performances. Usual crowd-pleaser Kree Harrison is undermined by a Lord Of The Rings-inspired background, as well as her own shaking confidence. At this point, it’s pretty much anyone’s game to win, except for Candice Glover, who consistently delivers killer performances night after night. Wednesday night’s themes are 2013 songs, followed by standards. And without further ado, let’s the games begin! More »

‘American Idol’: The Top 4 Girls Are All Safe & They Perform Alicia Keys’ “Girl On Fire”

April 26th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

The results show was basically one big reminder of how the top four ladies sang the night before, peppered by performances from past American Idol winner Lee Dewyze and onetime Top 10 contestant Stefano Langone. Wednesday night really was Angie Miller‘s night, but don’t get too comfortable, guys, because Idol had a surprise in store on Thursday…which I totally spoiled in the title. Too late for a spoiler alert? More »

‘American Idol’: Angie Miller Snatches Some Wigs From The Other Top 4 Girls

April 25th, 2013 // 1 Comment

Guys, can you believe there are only four contestants left? Last week saw the departure of Janelle Arthur. The themes for this week are contestant choice, duet and then one hit wonder. We get to see lots of singing from the contestants, since there are so few left. These girls have to be exhausted. I know I am.

At this point, the girls keep getting reminded that their amazing voices are no longer enough to keep them in the game. It’s basically a given that their vocals will be stellar. As it turns out, Angie Miller manages to pull out all the stops and stands out as the best all around for the night.

For the first half of the show, we get reminded intermittently that American Idol would like you to know they care with a visit to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The girls have a sweet interaction with the kiddos, but I couldn’t help but wonder, where’s the Ford Focus?

OK, enough with the feel-good stuff, let’s hear some songs! More »

‘American Idol’: Janelle Says Goobye, Paula Abdul Returns And Clay Aiken & Fantasia Perform

April 19th, 2013 // 1 Comment

The ladies have returned from last night’s birthday and diva performances to face the results of voting. With so few contestants remaining, the smallest slip-up during a performance could spell doom for any one of these contestants. We get treated to a clip of Randy Jackson proclaiming this to be the best top five ever and I suspect he’s said that every season at this point. I predict that next season, Randy will be replaced by a Teddy Ruxpin-like robot that just spits out recorded phrases of his from the past decade or so.

Of course, a results show wouldn’t be complete without some performances. The American Idol stage was graced by Season 2′s runner-up, Clay Aiken, as well as Season 3 winner, Fantasia Barrino. All right, so let’s dive into these results! More »

‘American Idol’: The Ladies Do Diva Songs By Whitney, Paula And, Yes, Mariah Carey

April 18th, 2013 // 5 Comments

It’s the exact opposite of a sausage fest on American Idol (now that Lazaro Arbos was booted off the show last week), with the five remaining ladies duking it out for the winning title. The two themes for tonight’s songs are birthday month and diva.

Because of this, we are treated to not one, but two Mariah Carey tunes. And while Mimi and fellow judge Nicki Minaj go at each other’s throats early in the evening, their story ultimately has a happy ending when Nicki gives Ms. Carey her due. These two may fight hard, but they love hard and it truly is the greatest love of all.
