Lady GaGa Wants To Look Her Leakers In The Eye

lady-gaga-lady-gaga-pictureYesterday, a new track purportedly by Lady GaGa made the rounds, and oh man was the pantsless pop star peeved. “I wrote ’second time around’ recently for a current recording artist,” she Tweeted. “I don’t know why people insist on leaking my work.” It’s pretty obvious once you hear “Second Time Around” that it wasn’t going to be a solo track for GaGa, at least in its current form; it’s a wrenching, piano-heavy song that has an aggressively generic quality about it, and overall it seems more appropriate for a re-re-release of the Pussycat Dolls’ Doll Domination than anything branded with the GaGa mark. Hear for yourself after the jump. MORE »

beptend1The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. leaked yesterday, thanks in large part to its Japanese release date being six days ahead of its American one (and a whole 13 days in advance of its street date in Argentina). All things considered, having an album not show up online until its first official street date is kind of an impressive achievement–if one that doubles as an argument for the standardization of international release dates, given that the versions pinging their way across the Internet now are taken straight from the retail version and not inferior rips of sanctioned streams. Just a thought! [Google Blog Search] MORE »

Dirty Projectors Go Ask Willy

ARTIST: Dirty Projectors
TITLE: Bitte Orca
RELEASE DATE: June 9, 2009
WEB DEBUT: April 9, 2009 MORE »

I love this (of course), and great review, Mike. I was a little surprised that "Stillness" has Amber's voice obscured behind so many effects, since her vocals on the live recording from a sxsw performance are just mind blowing, much better than the album cut. The lead vocalist on "Two Doves" is actually Angel Deradoorian, who has a solo EP coming out about a month from now.

@Weezy F Baby:

Yes, the video, and the subject matter is too much. As well as the Akon and Kanye cameos at both the top and end of the video.

Now that all that is said and done, I will go ahead and admit it: I am excited for this release. I like most of Epiphany, and have a new found love for Chopped and Screwed. I blame hearing at least two or three times on Sunday night while sipping Patron and getting my smoke on.*

*I wish I was just trying to be funny with that last tidbit, but it is indeed true. Happy belated 21st birthday sis!

Ne-Yo Aims For A Place In Pop’s Royalty

ARTIST: Ne-Yo
TITLE: Year Of The Gentleman
WEB DEBUT: Sept. 10, 2008
RELEASE DATE: Sept. 16, 2008 MORE »

I interviewed Ne-Yo in April and asked him about working on the new MJ album (he's one of about a million people who've logged studio time with him). This is what he could say on the subject:

"Uh, nothing that would get me in trouble. He was very adamant about nobody knowing what's going on. No explanations, not even song titles. But we are working together and it's coming along nicely. He's being very selective."

And on how he felt when he got the call:

"I thought they were kidding! I didn't believe it. I don't really do the starstruck thing, but when I met him and stood in front of the man, I was shaking like a leaf."

Is It Too Late To Apologize For Chris Cornell’s Solo Career?

medium_cornell-thumb.jpgARTIST: Chris Cornell
TITLE: “Long Gone”
WEB DEBUT: July 17, 2008 MORE »

It's to Cornell's credit that he WANTS to keep working. He's got enough money to live off of for the rest of his life, but for him, recording, touring, and writing IS his life, and he wants to keep at it. If Timbaland can help him do that, then so be it, but although this is the most sure-fire success of 2009 (you can put money on it breaking sales records) it also confirms in the mind of the common people how disconnected the big marketers are from the sincere pulse of whatever is going on street level.

You want to hear a singer with no voice left, just look at Johnny Rotten. Cornell CAN still uncork a raging vocal when he decides he wants to. He just seldom wants to.

And I LIKED "Euphoria Morning" goddamn it.

And Timbaland sucks.
