London Olympics 2012: Sir Paul McCartney Performs “Hey Jude” At Opening Ceremony

London Olympics Paul McCartney
Take A Great Song And Make It Better

The world is watching the London Olympics now, thanks to the Opening Ceremony which closed with a rousing rendition of The Beatles“Hey Jude” performed by Sir Paul McCartney. As inspirational anthems go, “Hey Jude” is pretty much at the top of the list — not to mention Sir McCartney is about as London as it gets, so it seems a fitting choice.

The legendary rocker, who began his performance with a few bars from Beatles classic “The End”, clearly became choked up as he looked out over the mass of people from all over the globe in the Olympic stadium. You’ll hear it in his voice during the opening lines of “Hey Jude”. But ever the pro, he quickly pulled it together, and had the entire world singing along.

The Wanted — Silver, Gold, Or Bronze?

You don’t have to win a gold medal to be “Glad You Came” to the London Olympics. If nothing else, there’s plenty of great music to listen to. Brit natives The Wanted performed two tracks by their fellow countrymen Coldplay, “Paradise” and “Fix You,” in addition to their own breakout single, of course. Who knew this boy band had it in them? Catch it below. More »

Given Lana Del Rey‘s obsession with fallen icons, it makes sense that she would get around to covering a Kurt Cobain classic. (Of course, she also has quite a thing for Cobain’s onetime rival, Axl Rose, too.) During a gig at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre last night, the new face of H&M belted out an even more somber (if you can believe it) rendition of Nirvana‘s 1993 alt rock staple “Heart-Shaped Box”, complete with a haunting, string-laden background.

Now, we’re not quite sure what it is about these American girls that makes them want to cover Nirvana when they travel south of the border, but as Miley Cyrus has shown, if you’re going to do it, you’d better do it right. Head below to watch, then let us know if you’ve got a new complaint to lodge against Lana, or if she rocked it. More »

Madonna’s club gig at the Olympia in Paris seemed to be going well yesterday — until she ended the show after about 45 minutes. Many of those in attendance began to boo the singer and chanting for a reimbursement once they realized she’d left for good. (Tickets for the concert started at about $98.) Others threw water bottles at the stage. Then came shouting by some audience members of the word “salope,” which is French for “slut.” More »

Madonna Performs Live In Paris: Watch

Madonna Give France A Kiss

For those Madonna fans who didn’t score tickets to her MDNA World Tour, the Material Girl’s intimate gig at the Olympia in Paris, France, is streaming live today (July 26). Also watching will be the many groups offended by the “Turn Up The Radio” singer’s button-pushing show. Since kicking off the tour in Tel Aviv in May, Madge has made headlines for her onstage use of guns, Nazi war footage and symbols — including the swastika — and for baring so many naked parts while on stage. She’s also ticked off the Little Monsters by way of a that “Born This Way”/”Express Yourself” montage and her Australian fans for canceling her dates down under. This is our roundabout way of saying, Madonna will undoubtedly give her Paris audience plenty to parlez about.

Nelly Furtado showed off her indestructible spirit at The Sayers Club in Hollywood Thursday night (July 19), performing an intimate seven song set. The Canadian songbird, wearing a pink skirt and hoop earrings (the bigger the better!), got the crowd jumping by singing past hits like “Maneater” and “Say It Right”, as well as new songs off her latest album The Spirit Indestructible. One such tune was the Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins-produced “Parking Lot”, a midtempo ditty that we can already imagine becoming a single.

Head below to hear Nelly’s stripped down acoustic cover of Calvin Harris‘ “Feel So Close”, the same vulnerable, atmospheric arrangement she performed during her recent set at SiriusXM. More »

Preview The Killers' New Tunes

We still have about two months to go before the release of The KillersBattle Born, their first new album in four years, but we get a nice preview of what’s to come thanks to the band premiering some new tracks last night (July 19) in concert. The band kicked off their Asheville, North Carolina show with their new single “Runaways”, and later performed new songs “Miss Atomic Bomb,” “Rising Tide” and “Flesh And Bones.” They all carry that patented epic feeling you expect with a Killers’ song, which should please all their fans hoping for more of the same. We’re sure they sound even better when not listened to via shaky low-quality video.

Watch the Las Vegas band perform new song “Miss Atomic Bomb” above, then head below for “Rising Tide” and “Flesh And Bones”. And look out for The Killers’ fourth studio album Battle Born, out September 18. More »

It's Ladies Night, Indeed!

These days Lil Kim is mostly known for picking fights with artists who are younger and currently more popular than she is, but she’s also got a comeback career in the works (she hopes). In her second installment of Return of the Queen, it’s “Ladies Night” indeed as she performs the 90′s hit and brings a couple other female MC’s to the stage, including Da Brat. Plus we get to see her interact with fawning fans and go shopping on Rodeo! It takes zero licks to get to the center of this video, so why not check it out?

Demi Lovato has recently gone from stage performer to judge on The X Factor, but she wasn’t about to critique the singer she brought to the stage of The Greek during her show last night — Nick Jonas, who joined her with his guitar for “Catch Me” and “Don’t Forget,” about which she joked, “I think we wrote this together.” In fact, Demi had nothing but positive things to say about the Jonas brother, calling him one of her “greatest friends” and commenting, “You already know how talented he is.” More »

Can Brandy Put It Down?

Brandy is angling for a comeback in 2012, with her album Two Eleven slated to drop this October, featuring the lead single “Put It Down” featuring Chris Brown. We first heard the track back in April, but we haven’t seen a live performance — until now. The “Boy Is Mine” singer dropped by 93.9 WKYS in Washington, D.C. to put down her new single — as well as show off some hot new moves she got from Laurieann Gibson. Can Brandy put it down? You bet.
