A day after the tragic death of Beastie Boys‘ MC Adam Yauch, HBO broadcast last month’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony, which featured a tribute to the band — with Travie McCoy, Kid Rock and Black Thought standing in for the trio. HBO, which decided Friday (May 4) to dedicate the show to Yauch, made late revisions to the broadcast, ending it with a photo of the late MC and on-screen text reading: “In Memory of Adam Yauch.”

The Beasties’ tribute performance, with Questlove of The Roots providing the beat, included renditions of all-time classics “No Sleep Till Brooklyn,” “So What’cha Want,” “Sabotage” and “The New Style” before an audience that knew all too well that Yauch was in the late stages of his battle with cancer. Rihanna Talks That Talk On ‘SNL’

Rihanna Saturday Night Live SNL
Rihanna - "Birthday Cake/Talk That Talk" Medley (SNL)

Newly minted actress Rihanna was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this week (May 5), for her third time on the show. In hot pants, tall black boots, a see-through blouse, black bra and studded baseball cap, the Battleship star first busted out a medley of “Birthday Cake” — minus birthday boy himself, Chris Brown — and “Talk That Talk,” without a guest verse from Jay-Z. And lest the audience miss the double-entendre laden in that first song, RiRi gyrated through the performance, patting her very own, uh, cake during the repetitive chorus. More »

There are numbers on Glee where the theme or lyrics of a song performed by the cast are directly linked to the plot, and then there’s the other 95% of performances on Glee where someone sings a song just because it’s a Top 10 hit. Such is the case with the show’s cover of One Direction‘s “What Makes You Beautiful”, performed at McKinley High’s prom on the May 8 episode “Prom-asaurus.” You know one thing the video for 1D’s hit single didn’t have? Heather Morris in a teeny, tiny hat.

Other songs in the episode include Berlin‘s “Take My Breath Away”, Selena Gomez‘s “Love You Like A Love Song”, Fergie‘s “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and Ke$ha‘s Animal track “Dinosaur”, which is actually about older dudes inappropriately creeping on young women. Maybe someone is finally singing about Mr. Schuester?

We’ll have to wait until tomorrow night to see if Rihanna and Andy Samberg reprise their “Shy Ronnie” skit on Saturday Night Live. But until then, the musical guest and series regular have teamed up with tomorrow’s host, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, for the short promo clip you see above. One thing we can probably count on: RiRi offering up a saucy performance of her latest Talk That Talk single “Where Have You Been”.

Justin Bieber isn’t covering Backstreet Boys, but his next single is called “As Long As You Love Me” — or at least that might be his next single. “I feel like my next single [after 'Boyfriend'] is better, and even my next single after that’s gonna be better than that,” JB told Sway on MTV First last night. When asked by the host what the next single is called, Bieber replied, “I don’t have it completely set, so I can’t say the wrong thing right now… I think it’s ‘As Long As You Love Me’, but I’m not sure. But that’s one of my favorites.” More »

In the second part of Bobby Brown‘s sit-down with Matt Lauer for the Today Show, Whitney Houston‘s ex-husband opened up about the fracas that was caused when he arrived at, and subsequently left, the “I Will Always Love You” singer’s funeral in February. “Whoever the security was there, asked me to have what they called my entourage — which was my children — sit somewhere else,” Brown explained. “We had to sit apart. And I was not willing to sit away from my children. So, after the third time of them coming to me I felt a little disrespected by the security that was there.”

Despite this, Brown told Lauer that he was absolutely invited to the funeral, and he described the Houstons as “a great family” that he appreciates “very much.” More »

Santigold celebrated the release of her sophomore album Master Of My Make-Believe by swinging by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to perform her single “Disparate Youth” for the late night show’s crowd. Flanked by two backup dancers with matching parisoles, the artist got things started by having the audience clap along with her. Unfortunately, they can’t keep rhythm as well as she can, but that’s why she’s the one on the stage. Watch above, and pick up her new LP, in stores now.

Ellen DeGeneres can’t seem to get enough of adorable UK tots Sophia Grace Brownlee and her cousin Rosie McClelland. She had the bouncy pair on her show yet again today, only they weren’t there to work another Nicki Minaj tune into a kiddie-friendly version. This time the girls whipped the crowd into a frenzy by dancing with Step Up franchise star Stephen Boss, aka tWitch. And if you think there’s anything cuter than Sophia and Rosie doing “the robot” and “the running man” — well, other than amazing cat videos on YouTube, of course — then you’d best just click play above.

Bobby Brown first learned of his ex-wife Whitney Houston‘s death in February from Ralph Tresvant, one of his New Edition bandmates. “He just pulled me outside and said, you know, I just heard that Whitney had just passed,” Brown told Matt Lauer during their Today Show interview. “I immediately got on the phone and I called my daughter.” Brown said that once he received confirmation that Whitney was indeed gone, he began to cry. “You never expect someone that’s close to you to just die.”

Houston’s ex maintained that the “I Will Always Love You” seemed to be on a clean path before her death, and says he was hurt when he heard an autopsy report showed cocaine was found in her system. “Me being off narcotics for the last seven years… I didn’t know that she was struggling with it still.” More »

The Voice‘s Season 1 Final Four came home while half of the remaining Season 2 contestants were sent home on Tuesday night’s (May 1) elimination show. Which means, yes, the competition is once again down to four singers after a long night of apologies from the coaches who put the fates of their singers entirely into America’s hands and reassurances from the coaches who skewed the odds in one person’s favor. And then last year’s inaugural winner Javier Colon, along with Vicci Martinez, Dia Frampton and Beverly McClellan returned to the NBC stage (with some very special friends, may we add) to perform and to catch us up on their year following The Voice and to demonstrate to the poor souls who’d be going no further in the competition that hey, even the losers win on this show.
