“THE WAIT IS OVA - 11.23.09,” proclaims a just-posted message on the official Web site of shape-shifting pop star Rihanna. That day’s a Monday, so who knows if what’s cooking will be a single or an album or what, but is it too much for me to hope that the misspelling of “over” was not just intentional, it’s an indication that her whole project will be themed after eggs? Is Usher’s “Monster” Going To Be Unleashed Anytime Soon?
Midway through writing this post on Usher’s alleged next album Monster and its supposed release date of Dec. 8, the Rap-Up item announcing its street date (as well as a roster of collaborators that included Ne-Yo and Adam Levine) vanished. I might take that as a sign that, no, the record isn’t coming out then, but perhaps his people are actually trying to go for the scary element of surprise here, so as to make the creature alluded to by its title even more menacing? Or maybe they’re just holding off announcing the release date until they ensure that nothing as lousy as Here I Stand’s “Moving Mountains” makes its way to Monster’s final product, because, man, that song was terrible. Mariah Carey: The Spin Cycle Begins
So, Mariah Carey’s been getting bad press about her forthcoming, and already twice-delayed, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, and it’s starting to overshadow the record just a wee bit. How best to rescue the buzz from eating itself? Well, apparently Mariah’s people have decided to enlist factually challenged gossip Roger Friedman, who’s never afraid to cover his sleeves with PR-company-donated hearts, to help kickstart the latest phase of the Mimi spin cycle into action. Did you know that, contrary to every piece of press that accompanied its release, “Obsessed” is not the first single from Memoirs, and never was intended to be? I guess both those iterations of its Brett Ratner-directed video were just a really expensive vanity project! MORE »

Mariah Carey Really Working The “Imperfect” Angle
Coming on the heels of a subpar performance on NBC’s televised variety show America’s Got Talent, songbird Mariah Carey has pulled out of her Aug. 28 performance on that same network’s Today and reportedly decided to hold off on other appearances. And now there’s talk that her forthcoming album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel has been pushed back yet again, this time to Sept. 29. (It was originally supposed to come out on Aug. 25.) MORE »

If you had August in your office “Let’s Predict The Release Date Of Lil Wayne’s Long-In-The-Works Rock Album Rebirth” pool, sorry, but you might want to kiss your money goodbye. According to the guy responsible for Weezy’s high-school lament “Prom Queen,” the record is now on track for a fall release: MORE »

Universal Music Group Still Pouring Money Into Nicole Scherzinger’s “Solo” Career
And no, this isn’t an April Fool: The Pussycat Dolls‘ underperforming Doll Domination (it’s shifted 314,000 units as of this writing) is being re-released later this month in (sigh) “2.0″ form, which basically means that the girl group’s cash-in tracks from The City and Slumdog Millionaire will be tacked on to the album, and the whole package will be re-presented to Americans in the hopes that they might actually care. (Cough.) Of course, lead Doll Nicole Scherzinger took the opportunity presented by the album’s reissue and ran with it in an even more self-promotional way: MORE »

That Eve Album From Forever Ago May Actually See The Light Of Day
Did you know that Eve’s last album came out nearly seven years ago? The release date of Eve-Olution was Aug. 27, 2002, and a lot has changed since then. A new president! A really new economy! Ryan Seacrest hosting shows on 84% of the radio stations in America! Which is why the follow-up to that album, which was somewhat cruelly called Here I Am even though it should have really been titled OK, I Was Supposed To Be Here Back In August 2007, has been completely made over, right down to the name.
