Now that we’ve gotten Chinese Democracy out of the way, it’s time to get ready to disappointed by other long-awaited albums from still-popular artists. And look, it’s D’Angelo! Billboardis reporting that the follow up to 2000’s Voodoo, James River, will be released this summer with an all-star array of sidekicks and collaborators along for the ride. MORE »

Please don't let Mark Ronson work with D'Angelo. That'd be such a boner kill.

What Happened To The Charlie Wilson Album?

Earlier this year, I posted the video for “Supa Sexxy”, former Gap Band singer Charlie Wilson’s collaboration with T-Pain. At the time, I wonderd why the track wasn’t more popular. Now, it’s eight months later and the album of the same title seems to be lost forever. But why? MORE »

Wouldn't it help the company's bottom line if the record was actually made available for sale?

This is a question I've been asking for years about shelved albums, and I still don't have an answer. My guess is that maybe the label pays an upfront fee for all those guests/producers, but only has to cut a back-end check if the album actually comes out, plus all the promotion and distribution costs of a retail release, so I guess they get gunshy about spending even more once the album doesn't appear profitable. It's kind of bizarre, though, this whole practice of making albums and then not releasing them.

"Supa Sexxy" might be the best 'featuring T-Pain' song of 2008, it really is a shame that it wasn't bigger.

AP080704020371.jpgTabloid fixture and sometime singer Amy Winehouse has told a UK gossip columnist that even though her stab at a theme to the new James Bond movie, Quantum Of Solace, was rejected in favor of a collaboration between Jack White and Alicia Keys, she’s going to get it together enough to record the song anyway. Really! MORE »

Boring? I'm sorry Amy, but Jack White doesn't know the meaning of "boring". Alicia Keys does, certainly, but not Jack White.

Dr. Dre’s “Detox” To Have Its Day… As Soon As The Dre-Branded Cognac Comes Out

AP080313039424.jpgCould a press release from Drinks Americas Holdings, the beverage company that has a joint venture with Universal Music Group to develop beverages of the alcoholic and virgin varieties around the record company’s artists, have offered business-page readers an inside line on a possible release date for Dr. Dre’s years-in-the-making Detox? A press release issued today by the company claims that not only will Dre’s branded cognac and sparkling vodka be released to the marketplace sometime within the next 60 days, said product launches will go hand-in-hand with the release of Detox, courtesy of a “fully integrated marketing program.” I guess the plan is to get drunk on the liquor, and then detox with… oh, you know. The relevant chunk of the release is after the jump. MORE »

i can't wait to see Dr. Dre on Emeril Live, oohing and aahing while Emeril uses Dr. Dre brand Cognac to make "kicked up" cherries flambe. then, Dre and Doc Gibbs do a calypso version of "Let Me Ride" to take us into the commercial break.

yes, this was inspired by my recent viewing of the Sammy Hagar episode of Emeril Live.
