Taylor Swift To Host Upcoming “Saturday Night Live” Episode, Inspire Even More Flogging Of Already-Old Joke

58630713“The only question is: Who will play Kanye West?” the Associated Press asks about teen twanger Taylor Swift’s Nov. 7 stint guest-hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Actually, I think the more pressing question is, “How many skits will the hacky SNL writers try to wring out of ‘Imma let you finish, but…’?” I’m putting the over/under at 3, maybe 4 if she’s only given the chance to perform two songs from her still-moving-units second album Fearless. Kara DioGuardi’s Pretty Great, If Unsurprisingly Ego-Inspired, Reality-Show Idea

REU TELEVISION-AMERICANIDOL/American Idol judge/songwriter-for-hire Kara DioGuardi is taking her televisual success to a new place—she told New York’s Diana Scholl that she’s developing a TV show of her own. And it actually sounds like something that I would not only watch, but document kind of obsessively. Behold: Dropped! MORE »

“Saturday Night Live” Musical Guest List More Notable For Who Isn’t On It

Par2716816Saturday Night Live is coming back to NBC’s airwaves on Sept. 26, and fresh off dropping of one of its least objectionable cast members, the show’s announced its first four host/musical guest pairings. U2 had previously been announced as the season premiere’s musicians-in-residence; the other three announced acts will, it seems, be holding it down for the single ladies. MORE »

Vh1 Can’t Stop Getting Behind Bret Michaels

behindthebandanaScarred by its forays into tawdriness going a little too far, Vh1 has put out a press release touting its fall and winter schedule, which is actually anchored by more than one show that’s tangentially related to music. (This must be why its headline uses the word “rockin’” as a verb.) Perhaps the most interesting among them to Idolator readers is the rebirth of Behind The Music, the docudrama series that became so iconic, it inspired multiple parodies. (Being ideal fodder for weekend days spent on the couch, whether alone or in a Beavis And Butt-Head-ish situation with friends, surely helped.) What’s notable about BtM’s forthcoming six-episode run is that a full 33% of its shows will be reruns, of a sort. MORE »

Christina Aguilera To Make Other People Make It Work

57312668After many delays and a switch of networks, production companies, and sponsoring magaiznes, the new season of Project Runway begins tonight. Yay! This is a music-related item of note because apparently Christina Aguilera is going to be a guest judge either tonight or somewhere down the line (the TV Guide item on the matter is sorta vague). Hacky Comic Not Convinced by Music’s Ability To Bring In The Eyeballs

jaylenoYesterday, Jay Leno gave television writers a preview of his new primetime talk show, telling the scribes in attendance that he expects the ratings of his show to beat CSI: Miami… when it’s in reruns. (Gotta love that American ingenuity.) In addition, he downplayed the idea that musicians would be a big part of his show’s programming, saying that even the biggest names wouldn’t necessarily bring in enough eyeballs to take people away from David Caruso’s eyewear-flinging ways: MORE »

Diddy Midwifes An Unholy Spawn Of “American Idol” And “The Real World”

The most notable thing about the trailer for P. Diddy’s StarMaker, a talent-and-drama show premiering on MTV later this month: The “I’m Not Here To Make Friends” Moment that’s required of every “x people picked to live in a house and annoy the crap out of each other” program these days, in which the friend-eschewing singer who’s hoping to ride Diddy’s coattails to fame says that she doesn’t want to make any “BFFFs.” What, pray tell, could that extra “f” mean? I shudder at the possibilities. [YouTube via Vicki] MORE »

Atlanta’s Newest Real Housewife Is Sooo Reallll, Soooooo Real

Continuing this year’s mini-trendlet of R & B stars of the ’90s turning into reality-TV stars of this decade, Soulbounce informs me that Kandi Burruss—formerly of the ’90s girl group Xscape alongside fellow reality-TV subject / T.I. paramour Tameka “Tiny” Cottle—is the newest cast member on Bravo’s Real Housewives Of Atlanta. Apparently she will get into fights! This all seems like a fine excuse to post her solo track “Don’t Think I’m Not,” which has been mentioned in this space before, but which is certainly worthy of being brought out for another go-round. It’s after the jump (above is the video for Xscape’s “Just Kickin’ It,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in 1993): MORE »
