Are The Original Sugababes Going To Reform—And Put Out Solo Records? (Please Say Yes, Especially To That Last Bit)

sugababesogA UK gossip site is reporting that the three original members of the girl group Sugababes—Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena, and the completely brilliant Siobhán Donaghy, all of whom have left the band since it was formed way back at the turn of the millennium—are in negotiations to reform, and put out an album. This bit of rumormongering comes in the wake of the announcement that the forthcoming album by the current incarnation of the band, the American-audience-tilted Sweet 7, has been pushed back to next February amidst internal strife of the legal and medical sorts. And of course it raises the question of what the new/old version of the group would even call itself at this point. (Sugababes UK? The London Sugababes?) But the best aspect of this rumor is this little nugget… MORE »

Parsing The Pulp: Is Jarvis Cocker Really Getting The Band Back Together For Glastonbury?

58744095File this under quotes that I wish had more detail about their inflection: Jarvis Cocker gave the following soundbite to the UK celebrity rag People: “Glastonbury means an awful lot to me, I would love to play there again. We’ve talked about it, there we go, there’ll be a band reunion.” Now, uh, not to rain on parades here, but I have many questions about this quote! For starters, who is the “we” that had this conversation? Is Jarvis referring to the members of the band, or himself and the reporter? And as a follow-up, is that “there we go, there’ll be a band reunion” a revelation that the Glastonbury organizers have already done their cash-waving in the general direction of the split-up Britpop superstars, or a cheeky acknowledgement of how the UK’s gossip-page sausage gets made? I know what side my suspicions reside on… and hey, the NME’s lede reworks Jarvis’ quote into “Jarvis Cocker has said that Pulp are ‘coming back,’ ” even though those two words appear nowhere in the 26 words quoted by People. Oh well, at least now I have an excuse to post a video, right? Let’s all meet up in the year 2000 (and ten), after the jump! MORE »

Chris Cornell Gets Back Together With His Old Band (No, The Other One)

Last night in Los Angeles, Chris Cornell appeared with Pearl Jam at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles, where they all ran through “Hunger Strike” from the Cornell-plus-Pearl Jam-minus-Vedder Andrew Wood tribute project Temple Of The Dog. It sounded pretty decent (especially given that those big notes at the end are hard to sing), and before you go and snipe “man, if only they’d done ‘Reach Down’ ” may I give you some news about who was in the crowd? Here is a hint: They know Chris pretty well! MORE »

Is Jawbox Going To Get Back Together On Late Night TV?

Rumor has it that, in celebration of the impending reissue of the DC post-hardcore darlings’ 1994 LP For Your Own Special Sweetheart, the answer to the question posed in this post’s title is “yes.” The remastered edition of Jawbox’s third album—which initially came out on Atlantic Records in The Great Alt Land Rush Of The Post-Nevermind Era—is scheduled to drop on Nov. 23, so if you’re a fan, I’d recommend checking the always-clickworthy Late Night Lineups rundown on a regular basis. (That page has actually been one of the most useful pages on the entire Internet for almost as long as I’ve been online, so, y’know, it’s worthy of a bookmark.) Why On Earth Would Anyone Think That A Dude In Shinedown Would Be An “Inside Source” Regarding A Soundgarden Reunion?

soundgardenAs savvy consumers of media, we all know that the Internet news world can have a lot of game-of-Telephone tendencies, thanks to the speed at which information can travel and the clicking hordes’ seemingly endless appetite for tidbits of information, no matter how watered-down or thinly sourced. But really, everyone, when the lead singer of Shinedown–you know, that band that has a death grip on radio’s rock charts these days, despite (or maybe thanks to) their aggressive anonymity?–starts spouting off about knowing that there’s a Soundgarden reunion in the works because of talk with “someone specifically in their organization,” you may want to check it out. Sure, there’s evidence that there might be movement on at least 75% of that front, but my first thought when I read Brent Smith’s bit of speculation was “Oh, he’s probably trying to link his band to ‘Outshined’ in peoples’ minds. Kind of weird, but I guess it’ll keep dude’s name in the limelight.” Luckily, one Daily Swarm reader allegedly has Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd on speed dial, and a text basically asking, “WTF?” was sent his way. And Shepherd answered! The text message that might prove everything, or might just attest to the power of Photoshop, after the jump. MORE »

Sunny Day Real Estate Reopening Their Tour Diary

sdreAfter much speculation over whether or not they would join the many bands from the ’90s reuniting this year (fueled by lead singer Jeremy Enigk telling a Seattle rock station that the band had gotten together in March), alt-rock legends Sunny Day Real Estate have decided to get back together to play their first concerts since 2000. So far, two shows have been confirmed: a show at the Paramount in their hometown of Seattle on Oct. 16, and a concert at San Francisco’s Fillmore on Oct. 13. More dates TK, I hope? A few songs from their catalog after the jump. MORE »
