Shakira sang the flirty Christmas classic “Santa Baby” last night at Rockefeller Center, finally giving her pelvis a break from performing. We almost didn’t recognize her without her belly-dance-cum-biomechanics-experiment hip contortions, not to mention that vintage ’80s combover on her head.

Above, a preview of a promo for this week’s Saturday Night Live, which will feature Taylor Swift performing and hosting. Why do I have a feeling that Swift’s eye-rolling at Bill Hader’s insistence on making a Kanye joke doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be three or four or 10 references to the notorious Video Music Awards incident during the 90 minutes of this week’s program? Creed continued its promotional jaunt for its just-out album Full Circle today with a stop at Live With Regis And Kelly; the band performed its new single “Rain,” and, uh, well. Let’s just say that for a once-pummeled band that’s inching toward a full-on “hey, they weren’t that bad” critical reappraisal, frontman Scott Stapp sure did sound like he’d ingested some Magical Stay Out Of Tune With The Rest Of The Band beans right before going onstage. Much more egregious than the snapped strap on Whitney Houston’s dress during her performance on this weekend’s X Factor, which inexplicably lit up the Internet today: The realization that her upcoming tour is going to rely a lot on her backup singers and dancers to carry along the proceedings. Which is kind of sad, actually, because there’s a lot to like about her comeback effort I Look To You. I do like the callback to “How Will I Know?” into this arrangement of the the Alicia Keys-penned song’, but I can’t help but think that if girlfriend went on the British talent search as a contestant with that performance, she would not have been put through by Simon Cowell to any next round at all.
