Ed Sheeran Performs “Lego House” In New York: Watch

Ed Sheeran Nokia Lumia Event
House of Ed

Well, as brand-sponsored novelties go, this is one of the cooler ones I’ve seen: Ginger-haired guitar-strumming unicorn Ed Sheeran made an appearance in New York a few weeks back, where he performed his heartbreaker “Lego House” at The Box (which is a teeny, tiny little venue) for Nokia’s Lumia phone. The performance was recorded on a bunch of Lumia devices and then cut together, and it looks pretty good for video recorded on a cell phone! Sincerely. Genuinely. Not just saying that.  More »

Fifth Harmony Say A Special Hello To You, Their Beloved Harmonizers: Watch

Fifth Harmony Fan Message Video
5Hey!

So I spent the evening with Fifth Harmony earlier this week — the night after their wild meet-and-greet at Topshop, where they were mobbed by fans — and it was memorable, to say the very least.

Next week, expect to see several exclusive videos with the girls — including some very special acoustic covers! — but for now, let me just leave you with a little message they wanted to share with their fans. No doubt you’ll forgive them for gushing a little bit. After all, their Harmonizers are amazing. More »

Ginny Blackmore Performs “Bones” Acoustic: The Idolator Sessions

Ginny Blackmore "Bones" Acoustic
Lovely "Bones"

The lovely Ginny Blackmore paid a visit to Idolator headquarters last week, and she came bearing gifts — not only a set of macaroons for our editorial team (delicious), but the greatest gift of all: the gift of song. (Bear with me!)

After the songstress chatted for awhile about her origins, songwriting career and obsession with turn-of-the-millennium R&B, she turned her attention to performing her debut single, “Bones,” a luminously gorgeous and aching ballad. Live, it reveals her powerful vocals and disarming stage presence; there’s talent and charm to spare here. (The way she sings, “It sucks being a woman in love with an unkind man” in the first verse is one of my favorite things that’s ever happened in our studio.) Come and lay your bones down with it.  More »

Diddy’s ‘Downton Abbey’ Guest Spot Turns Out To Be A ‘Funny Or Die’ Sketch: Watch

Diddy on Downton Abbey
Diddy Does Downton

Ah, well. I got my hopes up so high for Diddy‘s starring role on Downton Abbey and it turned out that the whole thing was just a big dumb publicity stunt for the mogul’s Funny or Die video, which was actually pretty funny, but not as funny as actually having Diddy on Downton Abbey would have been. But still, well played, Diddy. Well played.

The sketch, coming off the heels of the announcement that Downton Abbey would have their first black cast member, sees Diddy joining as Lord Wolcott, the new lord of Downton (he pronounces it “Downtown,” which is not as funny a bit as he thinks it is); probably the best moment is Diddy’s implied gay love affair with footman Thomas Barrow, which gives him the opportunity to announce, “I’m Lord Wolcott, and I love everybody!” More »

Sorento Serenades With Boyz II Men: See The Guys Sing During A Marriage Proposal

B2M Help One Couple Have A Truly Memorable Vacation

In March, we first announced Kia’s Sorento Serenades contest, where three nominated people would be surprised in some manner by meeting legendary vocal group Boyz II Men. (Trust us, the full details were under lock and key, and even we didn’t know what exactly was in store at the time.) Now it’s time to meet Nikki, the first Sorento Serenades winner.

In the clip above, Nikki’s boyfriend of two years, Stephen, discusses their relationship in a voiceover as the happy couple take a trip from Wisconsin to California, where they drive around in their white Sorento. Unbeknownst to Nikki, Stephen is planning on proposing to her while the pair explore the sunny sights in Los Angeles.

As the pair are enjoying a beautiful dinner on their trip, Boyz II Men’s Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman give Nikki a shock by walking up to their table and delivering a chills-inducing a cappella rendition of their classic hit “On Bended Knee.” More »

Watch Iggy Pop-Associate

Iggy Azalea, what a trooper. The Aussie rapper dropped by our Los Angeles studio for a chit chat even though she was battling a wicked cold. (Not that you could tell in this clip — the Wilhelmina model looks as stunning as ever.) Did that stop Iggy from taking part in a round of Pop Associated? Heck no! She simply sipped on some much-needed codeine between takes — because that’s the kind of type-A gal she is. (See also: lyrics to “Work”.) Watch as the blond bombshell dishes on everyone from T.I. to Pusha T to Juicy J to Natasha Bedingfield. Plus find out just why her old tour mate Rita Ora is so “mischievous”. More »

Ahead of the release of her debut album Don’t Look Down on July 9, Skylar Grey has teamed up with Gap’s Styld.by to model some of the retailer’s stylish new summer fashions, such as the above pictured laced-up boots, white top and and green-and-navy-blue-striped skirt. (Pick up the skirt here.)

To give fans a taste of what’s in store with Don’t Look Down, Skylar unveiled her “Final Warning” video this week (brush up on the lyrics to the song here), which tells the tale of a mistress whose lover attempts to put her to rest for good, so he can live happily ever after with his pretty blond wife. However, Grey, who plays the other woman, resurfaces, and confronts her would-be murderer at home, in front of his family during his birthday party. Awkward?

Leah LaBelle’s “Lolita” Video: Watch The Super-Sexy Clip

Leah Labelle Lolita Video
La Femme Nikita

Apologies on this one because I’m a little bit late to the party (it dropped last week!), but I couldn’t stand the idea of not showing some love to the crazy-sexy-cool video for “Lolita” from Leah LaBelle, former American Idol finalist-turned-Epic Records R&B chanteuse and, apparently, pop music’s biggest Nabokov enthusiast. This Pharrell-produced single is slinky good fun, with a chorus that’s properly huge — the type of radio candy that should command more mainstream attention than it’s snagged (so far, at least).

The accompanying visual has plenty of heart-shaped glasses — an apropos homage unto itself, but cleverly, it’s the boys (all shirtless) trailing LaBelle through a series of sexy situations (especially that carwash — yikes!) who are wearing them. LaBelle seems more than comfortable putting her feminine wiles to good use as the queen bee, and she — like the song — absolutely deserves to be worshiped.  More »

Kacey Musgraves’ “Blowin’ Smoke” Video: Watch Her Blow Smoke (Literally)

Kacey Musgraves "Blowin Smoke" Video
Smoke & Mirrors

Like virtually everything about country singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves — namely, her bracingly good lead single “Merry Go Round” and her peerless alt-country-pop album Same Trailer Different Park — the video for Musgraves’ new single, “Blowin’ Smoke,” is as good as it gets.

The hazy, smoke-filled clip complements the song’s vibe — that is, bitterly resigned in a nicely self-deprecating way — perfectly, as Musgraves dresses up as the prettiest diner waitress you’ve ever seen, taking cigarette breaks with her co-workers as they plot an escape from their small-town life. Most videos this literal feel unimaginative, but like Musgraves’ songwriting, the clip is so lovingly detailed that it’s irresistible.  More »

Sara Bareilles’ “Brave” Video: Watch People Dance Bravely

Sara Bareilles Brave Video
Dancing Brave

Oh hey, it’s the video for Sara Bareillesvery good single “Brave”! The track — her first taken from her upcoming LP The Blessed Unrest — has a big singalong hook and an inspirational be-your-best-self message, so fittingly, the accompanying clip is nice and sunny: “Normal people” dance like total goons in various locales (a gym, a shopping mall, a bus stop, a library).

The bravest thing about the video, though, is that Bareilles is wearing a black-and-white polka dot blouse on top of black-and-white pants that are covered in cursive writing. Truly courageous. And she even pulls it off! More »
