Pet Shop Boys announce Electric. Read More »

Pet Shop Boys continue to tease their forthcoming 12th album Electric (out July 15), this time via a video clip featuring a snippet of eerie electro track “Fluorescent.” It’s the fourth song on the LP, and like “Axis,” it travels more in the club vein. That said, while the album does have the duo tipping their hats toward the dance floor, having now heard the Stuart Price-produced Electric in full, I can say that the nine tracks are comprised of more experimental dance numbers, a la 1993′s Relentless, as well as upbeat pop songs, some of which sound like secretly-shelved gems from the Please and Actually eras.

For now, though, take in the glowing circuitry, the pagan-esque imagery and the pulsating synths of “Fluorescent” in the video clip above. More »

Ke$ha Throws A House Party With Will.i.am: Watch Her “Crazy Kids” Video

Ke$ha Crazy Kids Video Preview
Let's Go Krazy

Ke$ha rocks cornrows in her new video for “Crazy Kids” — by the way, that ‘do took four hours to braid. While Pitbull is thankfully nowhere near the video ( there are a few actual pit bulls, as well as K$’s cat), will.i.am partakes in the festivities via spaceman hologram. Lesser of two evils, we suppose?

Directed by Darren Craig, the clip starts out in a setting that feels like Training Day on pixie dust. Then Ke$ha proceeds to party with plenty of 40s, and men who are at least in their 40s. So, yeah, there aren’t too many crazy kids here. Watch it up top or over at MTV. More »

Watch Jennifer Lopez Perform “Live It Up” On ‘Britain’s Got Talent’

Livin' It Up In Britain

Jennifer Lopez‘s live performance of “Live It Up” during the Billboard Music Awards was one of our favorite outings of the broadcast. It featured plenty of fierceness and red feathers (and, well, Pitbull), so we were excited to see if JLo could match the energy when she brought the new single to Britain’s Got Talent for another go.

The feathers were back (in black), and so was her total command of the stage. But Pitbull was a no-show this time, much to the chagrin of… ANYWAY, check out the performance up top. More »

Jessie J Goes “Wild” With Dizzee Rascal, Big Sean & Big Earrings: Watch

Wildin' Out

When Jessie J unveiled her new song “Wild” over the weekend, she also previewed the music video in a clip that promised much snarling and vogueing in black and white. The full video dropped today (May 28), and it delivers on those fronts. Directed by Emil Nava, the clip starts with just Jessie alone on a white set, angry-dancing in her underwear. Soon enough she’s joined by Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal, but the only thing sassier than the singer is Sean’s ridiculously plush fur coat. Check it out up top. More »

Major Lazer’s “Bubble Butt” Video Is Pretty Much Exactly What You’d Expect: Watch

Diplo's Twerkout Plan

The most mindlessly awesome song of the year gets one of the most mindlessly twerksome videos of the year. Major Lazer‘s “Bubble Butt” visual is highbrow fare, to be sure, full of butts, bubbles and butts inflated into bubbles. Unfortunately, while the track features 2 Chainz, Bruno Mars, Tyga and Mystic, the stars aren’t present for the video – not that there’s any room for them among the globular gluteals, anyway. More »

Lawson’s “Brokenhearted” Video: Watch Them Party With B.o.B

Lawson Brokenhearted B.o.b
Not That Brokenhearted

Oh boy! It sure is a shame about Lawson, isn’t it? What it must be like to go through life looking like that. How awful for them. Truly. Sincerely.

Yes, the criminally unattractive British vocal group made an impact with their debut album’s Coldplay-inspired anthemic pop-rock songs on their last album, but the first single from their as-yet-untitled sophomore LP, “Brokenhearted,” is a chewier nugget: More Maroon 5 than Chris Martin in its jangly, funked-out vibe. Still soulful. But mostly just really, really good-looking.  More »

2NE1′s CL Breaks Out Hard With “The Baddest Female”: Watch Her Solo Debut

CL The Baddest Female Video
The Very Baddest?

2NE1 might be my favorite K-pop girl group, and the group’s breakout star has always been CL, a spitfire of a rapstress with more attitude in her pinkie finger than her stateside contemporaries have in their whole bodies.

Accordingly, her debut solo single “The Baddest Female” (great title, no?), appropriates a type of trappy, spare sound that’s become de rigeur in American rap, then swaths it in a zany, futuristic sound that’s distinctly K-pop — cheerleader shouting, a chorus that will indeed make you want to dougie, a monster dubstep break and tiny self-contained hooks that stick with you even if you don’t speak the language. (There’s only one English-language callout in the song — “Where all my bad girls at?” on the chorus — but that’s totally enough.) It’s Gwen Stefani‘s “Hollaback Girl” plus Nicki Minaj‘s “Beez in the Trap,” and it’s awesome. More »

Kelly Clarkson’s “People Like Us” Video: Watch Kelly In Costume

Kelly Clarkson People Like Us
People Like Kelly

Kelly Clarkson has gotta be one of the most likable figures in pop — if not the most likable pop star out there — and oh, she’s not going to lose any fans with the video for her latest single “People Like Us,” which sees a heroic Clarkson dressed up as an evil scientist, holding a little girl captive.

But wait! Kelly’s one of the good guys, because she has pigment in her skin, like the little girl? Or something. I don’t know. It’s like PleasantvilleMinority Report, maybe. Who cares? It’s a new Kelly Clarkson video, and most importantly, it sees Kelly rocking a truly majestic high ponytail. It’ll probably be the high point of your day.

Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’, In One Five-Minute, 8-Bit Video Clip By Joe Jeremiah

We're Short-Circuiting Over This One

Why, no — apparently the whole 8-bit craze did not take the dirt nap once Black Eyed Peas hopped on the bandwagon with whatever that last album of theirs was called. For you see, YouTube star Joe Jeremiah‘s series A Bit Of 8-Bit is still going strong, and he set his sights on Daft Punk‘s Random Access Memories for his latest clip. Yes, the whole album. “Get Lucky.” “Giorgio By Moroder.” “Contact.” All of it, in one, five-plus-minute clip.

We’re guessing that this is the exact type of cheap-and-dirty electronic trickery Daft Punk were looking to avoid when they recorded their LP with live instruments. (Hell, this is probably exactly what they hear whenever a Justin Bieber/Nicki Minaj/Ke$ha/Macklemore, etc. song comes on the radio.) More »

Prince & 3RDEYEGIRL’s “Fixurlifeup” Video: The Best ’90s-Leaning Rock Jam You’ll Hear In 2013

The Breeders Are Mad

Picture all the big clove-smoking early-to-mid-’90s crunchy girl guitar groups colliding with Sly & The Family Stone for a midnight jam session at the coffeehouse, and the results would surely be something akin to “Fixurlifeup,” the cool, weird new song Prince and his protege’s 3RDEYEGIRL dropped last month. Actually, I take that back — it’s not weird at all. It sounds straight-up like something out of a time capsule that was buried in 1993.

The video provides another flashback moment, as we see the Purple One himself looking not unlike he did during his rocked-out Billboard Music Awards performance this past Sunday (May 19): ageless, lithe and ever the star. The ‘fro suits him well, too. More »
