An Inside Look At Demi's Emotional Video

Been wondering why Demi Lovato seems a bit stationary throughout her emotional video for “Heart Attack”? As she explains in the behind-the-scenes clip Idolator is premiering today, “It was actually the first time that I had worn heels since I had broken my ankle. So I’m not moving around that much.”

Still, Disney’s top pop princess (per Idolator readers) is not one to be sidelined by a minor injury. In fact, she used her handicap to her advantage by letting her facial expressions and raw emotions take the reigns of her performance for the visual.

Watch Demi, sans a coating of black paint, talk about transforming pain and suffering from past relationships into art in the above  look at her music video for “Heart Attack.” More »

Taylor Swift’s “Red” Covered By Fifth Harmony: Watch

Fifth Harmony, Loving Taylor Swift's "Red"

When Fifth Harmony was still known as 1432 and competing in The X Factor, the girl group performed a cover of Taylor Swift‘s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” Now six months later, after having covered Frank Ocean (“Thinking About You”), Lana Del Rey (“American”) and One Direction (“Kiss You,” “They Don’t Know About Us”), Fifth Harmony revisits Swift’s discography as they cover the title track off Red.

For their take on Swift’s country-inflected song, the group takes to the same piano featured in their “Thinking About You” cover, which adds gravitas especially to Swift’s lyrics of her blue and gray memories.  Watch Fifth Harmony perform “Red” up top. More »

Taylor Swift Joined By B.o.B In Atlanta: Watch Them Perform “Both Of Us”

Taylor Swift And Bobby Ray, Both In ATL

“As you may know, Atlanta has quite the music scene, and it turned out my friend was in town,” Taylor Swift said. “So I called him up and I just said, ‘Do you want to come and be a surprise guest on my show?’ I know him as Bobby Ray, but the world knows him as B.o.B.”

Based on the shrieks inside Philips Arena, the crowd knew even before Swift said his name. On Friday (April 19), for her second Atlanta gig in a row, B.o.B joined Swift to perform Strange Clouds single “Both of Us.” The duo last performed together at Z100′s Jingle Ball, after they teamed for a live rendition of “Airplanes” in Dallas, with Swift singing Hayley Williams‘ part.

Watch the performance up top, then after the jump, check out Swift’s performance of “22″ in Orlando. (The dance breakdown is amazing.) More »

Take A "Power Trip" Trip

J. Cole and Miguel teamed up earlier this year for “Power Trip,” and it’s one of our favorite hip-hop cuts of the year. Brooding yet light, it highlights both performers’ ability to shine with minimal, streamlined elements underneath their vocals. Cole produced the track himself (which is off Born Sinner, out June 25) and up top he talks about how the song came together. More »

Ready For Their Close-Up

After totally reworking “Adorn” and “How Many Drinks?” for a pair of scorching SNL performances last weekend, Miguel returns with the video for his Kendrick Lamar-assisted “How Many Drinks?” remix. Just in case it weren’t clear that Miggy’s one of the best performers in pop right now, the Clark Jackson-directed clip primarily focuses on soundstage performance footage to drive the point home. K-Dot jumps in at the halfway point wearing a rad summer ensemble that only a successful musician could pull off, and once they’re both sharing the stage, the dudes quickly go from grooving to goofing around.

Will.i.am & Justin Bieber’s “#thatPOWER” Video: Watch The Slick Clip

Will.i.am & Justin Bieber #ThatPower
What Power?

Will.i.am has just released the video for his Justin Bieber-assisted single, “#thatPOWER,” from his upcoming LP #willpower (hashtag willpower!), and — just like the “Scream & Shout” video — it’s ultra GIF-able, with some mighty slick dance moves. Still, the most crucial element of this video is that Will is still rocking his  drop-crotch harem pants. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Aside from the meticulous choreography — featuring Will and some dudes who are styled just like him — Justin Bieber has also been beamed in via holograph to sing the hook, although he plays a smaller role in the clip than his fans would probably like.  More »

Watch Fall Out Boy’s Gluttonous, NSFW “Young Volcanoes” Video

FOB Feast

Fall Out Boy is capping off their big week with the premiere of their video for the peppy single “Young Volcanoes,” off the warmly received comeback album Save Rock And Roll. The visual starts with the foursome being force-fed by a gaggle of dominatrix-y women, and it all seems pretty grimy and miserable. There’s a flash of fun during what appears to be a dream sequence, when it becomes a greasy party with bloody animal masks and topless ladies (seems to be a lot of music videos with that latter feature these days). Skylar Grey Plays ‘Pop Associated’: Talks Eminem, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera & More

Skylar Grey Pop Associated
Em, Dre & Oh So Much More

We had the pleasure of hosting Skylar Grey in our New York City studio a few weeks ago, where we chatted with the singer-songwriter about her upcoming LP Don’t Look Down — but after that, we had her join us for a round of Pop Associated, our word association game that gives artists the opportunity to dish on their contemporaries. (It’s juicy.)

See Skylar dish on past and present collaborators like Eminem, Diddy, Dr. Dre, T.I., Rihanna and — most intriguingly — Christina Aguilera, for whom she penned “Castle Walls.” Fighters will be pleased to note that Grey reveals an interesting tidbit about the Great Legendtina’s commitment to her craft that might surprise you. It certainly surprised us. More »

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Can’t Hold Us” Video Is A Journey By Camel And Pirate Ship

The Ceiling Can't Hold Them...Or This Camel

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis managed to get through their MTV Movie Awards performance of “Can’t Hold Us” last weekend without dropping their pants. And, sadly for those hoping to catch a glimpse of the chart-topping duo au naturale in the song’s official music video, there’s nary a sighting of the pair sans clothing.

What we do get is some next-level shit — at least as far as Mackelmore’s thrift shop leanings are concerned. The vid, co-directed by Lewis, Jason Koenig and Jon Jon Augustavo, follows the satirical rapper, his musical sidekick and guest vocalist Ray Dalton as they travel the world while waving the flag for The Heist (that would be the song’s parent album). Tegan & Sara’s “I Was A Fool” Lyric Video: Watch

Tegan and Sara Fool For Love Lyric Video
Unfoolish

Tegan and Sara‘s Heartthrob is one of the only releases this year that’s still on heavy rotation for us a few months later — and standout track “I Was A Fool” is a lushly gorgeous ballad, draped in longing and regret. Now, the song has received a lyric video treatment courtesy of the sisters Quin, and while lyric videos don’t tend to be a particularly compelling affair, by and large, “I Was A Fool” succeeds where others fall flat: Not only because the song is amazing (it is!) but because the video is actually lovely and evocative, trailing a lonely girl through the city streets as Tegan and Sara perform in the background.  More »
