Florence Welch looks ever so lovely in her latest spread for Marie Claire. While other pop stars may have gone with a beach theme for the magazine’s June issue, the Austin City Limits headliner went baroque. The “Breath Of Life” songstress explains her fashion sensibility to the women’s mag, ”I’ve got a teenager’s sense of romanticism. Like when you’re 15 and you think, Oh, I could just die!” The recent Letterman performer even goes so far as to say that her face “isn’t right” for casual clothes.

As for her fiery mane, Flo says her signature color is here to stay: “I’m a lifer now — I’ve tried going back to brown, but I don’t recognize myself.”

See Flo as she dons the finest designer duds (Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent) in her dramatic pictorial.

The clip for Gossip‘s empowering dance-pop single “Move In The Right Direction” works as both a video and a lyric video, as the words to the song (or the movements of the song itself, ie. “Intro” and “Guitar Solo”) appear in the background as fierce frontwoman Beth Ditto and her dancers bust out moves in the foreground.

We’re really digging the clever editing and choreography, and the fresh burst of red added in the middle of the mostly black-and-white clip, which was directed by Price James. Hey, if the White Stripes aren’t around anymore, Gossip might as well utilize their color scheme.

“Move In The Right Direction” is from the band’s fifth studio album, the ABBA-inspired A Joyful Noise, which was released today on Columbia. Purchase it at eMusic.

With the green background, butterflies in her hair and viny, rainbow-colored font on her official “Wide Awake” single artwork, Katy Perry looks like a flower child who’s getting back to nature — well, except for the fact that purple hair isn’t all that natural, is it? “I think sometimes people think we’re perfect. And we know we’re not perfect at all,” Perry said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today while talking about upcoming 3-D documentary Katy Perry: Part Of Me. “I think it’s important to start breaking down the idea that to achieve your dream you have to always be perfect or flawless or live in some kind of fantasy world.”

Well, okay — we’ll buy that. Though Katy does look look pretty fantastic on the “Wide Awake” cover.

It’s not a new album, but it’s a step in the right direction — Justin Timberlake is taking the same leap as artists like Trent Reznor and Daft Punk and will compose his first film score. The pop star-turned-actor will be the composer and music supervisor for the film The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea, which will star Chloe Moretz and Justin’s fiance, Jessica Biel. (We’d typically discourage couples working together on the same project, but we’re fairly sure a film’s composer and lead actress won’t have too many opportunities to create drama on set.)

The film, to be directed by Bill Purple in a production beginning this fall, will explore a recently widowed man’s daily grief after his wife (Biel) dies in a car accident. Can’t you already hear “SexyBack” playing in your heads?! [Via Indiewire]

Chicago MC Lupe Fiasco, no stranger to controversy, is already in hot water over his lead single from upcoming LP Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album. The track in question, “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” samples Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth’s 1992 rap staple “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)”, which itself samples Tom Scott’s cover of Jefferson Airplane’s “Today”.

Turns out Pete Rock is none too thrilled over Fiasco’s borrowing from his song. “No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone,” the rapper/producer/DJ tweeted last night. “Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made… Outta anguish and pain. When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one!”

Hitmaker DJ Khaled returns as the master of ceremonies — and of disaster — in the chaotic new video for new single “Take It To The Head”, shot amid the rushing flood waters and flashing flames of the Earthquake-inspired amusement park ride at Universal Studios Orlando. But when Khaled’s all-star lineup — Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne — all pile onto the same track, is it a sure-fire hit or a catastrophe in the making? What’s clear is, with all the cataclysmic action around him, it’s easier than ever for the Miami DJ to remain in the background and simply nod along to the beat. More »

Flo Rida is aiming for a third hit off upcoming LP Wild Ones (out July 3) with none-too-subtle new single “Whistle”. And he’s hoping the puckered-lip hook of the song, and its sexy video, will seal the deal. A short tease of the visual (which premieres in full this Thursday, May 24) shows a shirtless Rida standing on jagged rocks by the ocean and partying with a pack of gyrating babes in Acapulco. In other words, don’t expect Citizen Kane — just a booty-shakin’ good time.

“I thought it was important for me to show everything in between,” Perry, who got married during the making of the documentary, told DeGeneres. “I think sometimes people think we’re perfect. And we know we’re not perfect at all. I think it’s important to start breaking down the idea that to achieve your dream you have to always be perfect or flawless or live in some kind of fantasy world. So that’s why I decided to put everything in the film, in the most tasteful way.” More »
